Dragon Con

It looks like it'd be a lot of fun.

(btw: I'm really glad to see you back  )

Imp and I will be there... but we can't help you on what it is like. It is our first.

I'm purchasing my ticket now online. It's one of the things that I've been curious about, besides all of the pictures that I've seen of the people attending are so erotic.

Make sure you guys do a good after action report for those of us who will be getting back to work just about then. I could see going for the steam-punk, alone. Wonder if Stella will have a load of ray guns to sell by then . . .

I've done a one day ticket two years ago.

Its fun, if you like comic books, sci-fi, geeks, nerds, social misfits, tv shows, or robots.

There is ALOT, I mean it takes over three large hotels, so get the guide on-line and map out what you want to see most, and plan on walking a good bit. Bring extra cash because there is always something to buy that you never thought you'd want to buy but have to have.

there really is too much to describe accurately, but if you are any kind of counter culture member, you'll fit right in.

Have you ever been, if so what was your experience like?

I'm thinking of purchasing a ticket for this year's event.

I've only been vicariously. *g* Like most gaming events, those who attend have a large number of anecdotes to share among anyone willing (or not) to listen; and, sometimes, the stories are even about themselves. hehehe

I've had DragonCon on my list of things to check out for years and years, but anytime I've had the spare room in my budget I haven't really had the time and vice versa. I found out more than once that people I knew well enough to have stayed with had either gone or were from the Atlanta area close enough to make it worthwhile.

Maybe this is the year to look into things again...although it might be kind of late to make that sort of decision for me. (Would have to deal with more than merely my schedule.)

I have gone to Gen Con .

Is that the same thing?

In a lot of ways, but better from the way I understand it because DragonCon is more all inclusive of the entire scope of Science Fiction and Fantasy throughout all sorts of media as opposed to being focused on gaming with tangents into other related areas. But I am working on hearsay and remembered convention schedules from years gone by since I haven't made it to Gen-Con yet either. *sigh*

I mostly stay in the Mid-Atlantic---Shevacon, Marscon, Ravencon and various of the gaming conventions that have mostly gone away with the advent of 4th edition.

I'm really looking forward to it......is it me or is it storming out side....good grief

Not if you live in Atlanta or the vicinity, it's not.

Well, obviously. But from the Left Coast . . .

Of course, it is fairly direct and less than $250 from my local airport . . . but still, all the way across country? I'll bet there's something comparable a lot closer. Not exactly the same, of course, but close. No?

San Diego and Comic Con..... Not as heavy on Tv Nostalgia and Pop Culture but very very similar.

Though if you come to the Right Coast, I'll take you out for beer.

My SO-in-Law works for Blizzard. I should ask her if there is a strong Steam Punk element in SD.

If you want to talk about travelling long distances to D*C, me & mine have travelled from England every year since 2004...

The con has now spread to a 4th hotel (the Sheraton), and there are already over 200 names on the guest list, & there's still almost 5 months to go!

Why do we do it? Well, apart from obviously because we're crazy, it's just a great place to be. We have friends that we only see in person there, some we knew online before we started going, others we've met there. The costumes are always worth looking at, but they're really only a small(ish) part of it, there are panels on pretty much anything, not just sci-fi & fantasy, concerts, contests, parties, parties, parties ;). You never know which stars you might bump into (we shared an elevator with George Takei last year, for example, & had Richard Hatch on the next table at breakfast a couple of years earlier).

The only thing about it is, it's addictive! Once you get home you start thinking about the next one, watching the site for guest news, debating what costumes to take next year, arranging roomies to share with if necessary, etc.

So hope to see you there BlackSnake (though with 35,000+ people there finding someone could be a problem ;)

Here's the official site, with guest lists & stuff, but be warned, all 4 main hotels & most of the listed overflows are already sold out! I made our reservation at the end of October & was lucky to get a room...

No worries, that's why god created the BlackBerry...I'll find you ;) I live in the Metro area, so if you're needing a place to crash it's no problem.....

I'm beginning to understand. Jim and I went to Safari Club International conventions for years for the exact same reasons, though of course there weren't any notable costumes there . . . except for fit women of a certain age in leather jeans! Ah-woooooooooo . . . !

Do I could dig your interest.
