I have always considered the Library a valuable resource to be able to wander around in... and a Librarian is a necessity for a good Library.
Yes, we need a librarian.
I'm new, but um i just wondered if anyone has emailed or pmd rebecca to ask if she still wants the role....
it might be good to do that first.![]()
I miss rebecca, and what's a librarian in this sense?
Well, raise your hand! We don't need a silly vote this time.
It's just a matter of grouping threads on the same subject matter together. The caning thread today would go under caning. That sort of thing. I think you'd be great as one.

Why not just have a bunch of librarians and assign them different parts of the alaphabet? Like one librarian gets A - F and so on.
That way it's not as overwhelming and you can see if anyone is slipping or quits and just assign a new librarian for their part instead of having to find another librarian to cover the whole thing.

I have to say a couple of things on this topic.
Among other things, the Librarian needs to
As far as *selecting* a Librarian, I think that the "election" we had a few months ago was a mistake. I think those who are interested should PM Cat and Marquis, express their interest in volunteering, and provide a brief outline of how they will meet the points listed above, and any other "requirements" that Cat and Marquis think are important. Then the moderators should make a choice (or choices - there's nothing in "the rules" that says we can't have co-Librarians, as long as they can work together!). It's too important a post to leave the selection up to what basically amounts to a popularity contest. It should be determined by our very experienced and knowledgeable moderators after they consider all the factors.
- be a volunteer. We can't just draft - or even nominate - someone without KNOWING that they want the job.
- have a certain amount of time to devote to it. Done right, it's a demanding project and requires a substantial amount of thread review, thought, and review of the Library topics themselves to ensure that, as adakgirl noted, links get broken, and other things can happen to require that the topics stay up-to-date and "workable" for researchers.
- be at least somewhat conversant with a very wide range of topics that fit within the BDSM umbrella - not necessarily *personally knowledgeable,* but have some idea of what various words and phrases relate to, e.g., figging, waxing (not Brazilian
), cupping, etc., just to mention a few that have gotten "WTH is that?!?!" responses when the threads came up.
That's my $0.02 (US) worth. YMMV.
