The Evangelical Sex Movement?

Christianity is a syncretic religion, an oral culture in McLuhanesque terms, they tend to absorb whatever culture is around them and then reflect the Christianized version of it.

It's becoming increasingly common to find Christians involved in BDSM, and BDSM itself has many of it's roots in the pagan reaction formation to Christianity in the middle ages - many of the props are borrowed from the inquisition, and inversion of Christian symbolism - itself syncretic, male supremacy BDSM is not far removed from mainstream Christian gender/role patterns, it's just not as boring.

That particular article seems very slanted to me. He/she seems very derisive toward those who are Christians and may wish to engage in BDSM. I wasn't impressed by the article at all.

One of the blogs that I follow on a semi-regular basis is written from a Chrstian perspective and a postive one at that. It deals with BDSM overall, and has some good tips for really anyone. I've enjoyed following it.

I see no reason why Christians should have to settle for Vanilla sex if they have a desire for something more.

I agree with you. Anyone should be able to do what they want in the bedroom. I didn't get the idea that the author was saying otherwise, but instead that he was disappointed in the way some supposedly pro-sex Christian sites were being handled.
Personally, I don't think it's very sex friendly to say that women should be submissive all the time or to say that oral sex is bad or that anal sex is bad or whatever. When you put those kind of good/bad limits in place, how can you really be sex-positive? And I'd say that's true Christian or not.

What I find fascinating is the idea that Evangelicals are creating their own version of the sex industry. So many churches are still very much hush hush about sex, and I have to wonder how those things will correlate.

Why is he wearing that stylised penis on his neck? Isn't it a Roman pagan symbol of luck and fertility?

confused, (not really)

Before we got married, my in-laws-to-be gave us an Evangelical sex book, written by one of Dr. Dobson's buddies. It included, among other things, tips on giving good head and genital shaving. It was positive about a wide range of things; the only sex practice it was neutral-to-negative on was anal sex.

This is not really news. Do-what-you-like within the confines of a contractually-enforced union has been the ethos since World War II.

And at the rate Evangelicals get divorced these days, they might as well be swingers, too.

I see nothing surprising about Evangelicals being concerned with their sex lives. They are very into marriage, and it is an important part of marriage.:)

“If you’re going to have anal sex, why not just have regular sex?”

This is a good question: If you’re going to have sexual contact before marriage, why not just go the whole nine yards and have regular sex? There are many good reasons for having anal sex instead. The first reason is practical: having conventional vaginal intercourse can lead to unwanted pregnancies. While it’s true that the Lord bade us to “be fruitful and multiply,” (Gen 1:22) the Bible also counsels that “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” (Ecl. 3:1) Pregnancy outside of wedlock can have dire and life-altering consequences for all those involved. Having anal sex allows you to greatly reduce this risk.

Second, for a young woman who has never engaged in sexual intercourse, having anal sex allows her to preserve her virginity (i.e., maintain an intact hymen) until marriage. There is no greater gift that a bride can give than to offer her pure, unsullied maidenhead to her husband on their wedding night.

Finally, anal sex allows both partners to save the most intimate and powerful sexual act, that of face-to-face vaginal intercourse, for their mates in marriage. This type of sexual relationship represents the most powerful union between a man and a woman, and so it rightfully should be reserved for one’s life partner. Fortunately, you can engage in anal sex prior to marriage and still be able to share the deeper, more meaningful act of consecrated love through vaginal intercourse with your wedded spouse.

Good Lord. :D They're advocating butt secks as a way to preserve chastity? That's awesome. Nothing frightening there for cowering virgins.

Given the powerful symbolism of the fist, it is no surprise that couples who have partaken in the practice of fisting have described it as being a profoundly spiritual experience.

Yes, indeedy. Hence the screaming, "Oh, God! Ooooooh GOD!!!"

(This is good stuff, ARW.)

Hooking for Jesus

Back in the 1960s I was visiting Brighton on business, dressed in my City gent pinstripe suiting with old school tie. At the time Brighton was almost as way-out as Swinging London.

I stopped for a meal in a small cafe that was close to the factory I was about to visit. Almost immediately I was joined at my table by three young ladies. They tried to persuade me to visit their Christian retreat "commune" in a squatted farmhouse just outside Brighton and promised me a great time with "free love and all...".

I declined their offer but they persisted all through my meal. Eating and arguing are not compatible. Eventually they got the message that I was not going to be persuaded and two of them left. The third said that she wanted to rest her tired feet and ordered a cup of coffee.

I asked her why they had targeted me. She replied that they were expected to bring back at least one recruit a day to continue to be qualified as active members of the commune. Their young men were also out and about in Brighton looking for women on their own "but women are harder to persuade" so the men had a quota of one woman a week. I looked as if I had a reasonably paid job so I was a prime target. If I had joined the commune I would have been expected to donate all my earnings and savings to the central funds and continue to earn for the commune.

She and her friends were students in their long summer vacation and not employed so their contribution had to be recruits with money. She admitted that the commune referred to what she was doing as "Hooking for Jesus" - in other words prostituting herself to recruit men. If I had agreed to accompany them I would indeed have received sexual intercourse but once only. After that I would only get free sex if I became an elder/priest of the commune. Any ordinary member would be punished for having sex with another member without earning it and getting an elder's permission.

She would be returning to university at the end of the vacation even if that meant expulsion from the commune and excommunication. After a month of membership she was disillusioned with the set-up. The elders lived lazy lives of sexual indulgence while everyone else worked hard to be allowed enough food to eat.

I asked if she wanted to leave the commune now. She said she couldn't. While she was "Hooking" she was under constant surveillance. One of the elders was in a car across the street watching her. If she left with me and we didn't get into the elder's car, a group of the commune's men waiting nearby would abduct her within minutes and she wouldn't be allowed out of the commune for months.

She finished her coffee and left.

Within a month the commune was raided by the police and closed down. The "elders" were arrested for living on the earnings of prostitution but no one was actually convicted. The commune's members were dispersed.

Wow. That's like a sex-Ponzi scheme or something. Points for imagination, but... just, wow.

This certainly wasn't evangelical sex. This was some dirty old men who had figured out how to con women into supporting them and providing easily available sex. They might have used some of the forms of actual religion, but it was strictly a scam. Of course, I believe most cults are that too. Maybe all of them.

I thought the "Evangelical Sex Movement" was 6 inches forward, 6 inches back.

Sorry.. I'm feeling snarky tonight.

Carry on.

As if

One preacher boy I dated would be doing good to get 5" on a good day.
He sure loved to eat me though! Only reason I continued to date him as long as I did!

Hugs and Licks!

Good Lord! Temple prostitution, just like Paul railed against in Romans and Corinthians. Amazing that the more things change, the more they stay the same.
