When to get to the Sex

For example, I know romance readers sometimes don't like it if they're five pages deep in what seems like a sweet little boy-meet-girl closed-door happily ever after and all of the sudden it's a detailed play-by-play of the entire football team going five at a time.

My attitude would probably be, Damn, I need to read more romance stories.

There should be sexual tension from the first paragraph. That doesn't mean characters have to get physical ever. You can have a sexy story without any intercourse at all (exhibitionist stories, for example). Erotic tension can be derived from something as subtle as the existence of two characters and a hint that they may soon feel attracted to one another. But that erotic tension should be there throughout the story and should be the focus of the story. If sexual tension is just something you throw in at the end, then you're writing in the wrong genre.
