Junior?
I hate to say it. I am a Junior fan, but after yesterday I am starting to think Junior is over rated as a driver. He made two stupid mistakes in the pits. Then comes out and wrecks Vickers and 6 or 7 other drivers and then blames Vickers?
The lead car has the right to block. I hate it, but the lead driver has that right. Since NASCAR gave the Nationwide driver a five lap penalty for rough driving, was not Junior's even worse? NASCAR just turned their heads .
OK, my flame suit is own. lol.

I understand what you are saying, but I thought nascar frowned on blocking. I know I see people doing it all the time and this is probably Junior's fault, but blocking a faster car from passing you is a foolish thing to do at Daytona and I'm not surprised to see a wreak resulting from it.
If they want to allow blocking there, then they should do away with the restrictor plates, you can't have it both ways. Those guys have to build up a head of steam to make a pass and if you're blocking, you're probably blocking a train.
Unfortunately, I didn't see the race and as you say, it may be totally Junior's fault, but he's been on the losing end of that sort of thing before too, so I'll forgive him and move on... if it was his fault.

I try really try hard to be a Junior fan. He was really frustrated with himself yesterday. I think that is what caused him to hit Vickers rather than the brake and pull back in line. Being in Indiana, I also try to be a Tony Stewart fan until he does something really PUNK and I want to punch him. lol. Kennseth is a good guy and I was glad to see him win . There were several of the little guys that had a shot of winning yesterday, and I would have been glad to see that also.
You are right about the restrictor plate causing much frustration with all the
drivers. It has to be very frustrating to make a run on a guy and have him pull over and block you. In the old days they wouldn't have gotten buy with it but a couple of times and the guy in the faster car would send him to the wall. NASCAR and sponsors have forced the drivers to become much less colorful than in days of yore. Can you imagine what NASCAR would do today in event of a Bobby Allison, Donnie Allison, VS Cale Yarborough fight? lol. That was highlighted a lot yesterday.

Then I'll stop defending Junior. I finally got a look a the replay and I think maybe they were both at fault here, but I lay more of it on Vickers. While I don't agree with blocking at those restrictor plate tracks it happens.
That said, it's not blocking anymore if the car behind you has his nose underneath you and is pushing for a pass. What Vickers did was to drive Jr down under the yellow line and that is not blocking, that's being an ass.
Now... as for jr. I think he maybe should've used the brakes to prevent the wreck, but in the heat of racing, I'd bet he just thought well fuck you, you ain't doing that shit to me and pushed back. He probably expected Vickers to move back up and he didn't and the wreck ensued.
I think it's a tough line to draw, but clearly if someone has his nose under you, you can't block him, he's already got the inside. All you can do is force him down under the yellow line or into the infield. I think that's what Nascar saw as well and the reason Jr. wasn't fined.

Jenn, I guess I am a long time lurker. I saw that Lit said youwhere online so I felt compeled to respond. You're adventures and photos have long been an insipration to me. Anyone who can be a sexy as you are and enjoy NASCAR is a double bonus. For what's it's worth I think JR was only trying to get back above the yellow line after being blocked and Vickers got in the way. Jesus it was only a slight tap. If Vickers can't hold his car together after a tap like that he shouldn't be racing.

They are going to be in Cali next week are you going? I was in Daytona withdrawals because I didn't go this year. I last went in 07. The cost of good seats, ($180. and up, parking near the track $60.00 ) and that is just for Sunday. The icing on the cake for me was the 3:30 or later start time. By the time the race is over it is dark. Even knowing the area , it was a nightmare to get away from the track. 200,000 people pooring out of the track in the dark isn't fun.
HD TV and cold beer in the fridge, restroom just outside the door, is hard to beat.

You can diss any other driver you want, but don't come into my house and give me shit about Jr. He's my man, when he's wrong he's right in my book. However in this case and from all the videos I've seen, Jr had a run and Vickers got sleazy and simply pushed him down under the yellow line. Vickers deserved to be put out to pasture after that.
What won me over as Jr fan once and for all was an incident that happened 2 or 3 years ago. Jr got into Jeff Burton and turned him sideways and executed a pass while Burton worked to get his car straightened out.
Jr. apologized over the radio saying that his car had slid up the track and he hadn't intended on bumping Burton, he then let Burton have his position back and they went back to racing.
I thought that was one of the classiest things I've seen a racer do and I fell in love with him right then and there.

About the best thing that happened during that incident and the thing that makes me even more of a JR fan is that he put those two damned Toyotas into the wall. I know he didn't mean to put anyone into the wall but that sure was a nice outcome.
