Oh no! Og's at it again...

Valentine's Day
themes: romantic love, Valentine's Day, Cupid, sensuality, etc.
starts: January 20
closes: February 5
winners announced: February 12

Laurel has announced the dates and themes for the 2009 Contests in the Welcome Authors! Please Read sticky. The Valentine's Day Story Contest comes very quickly after New Year and has a short time slot available for submissions.

The Valentine's Day Contest is also one of the most popular for entries so start preparing for it now...

As before, this thread is to encourage authors to write and enter, to support them when the muses fly away, to sympathise when trolls attack, and to shamelessly beg for votes.

For anyone who hasn't entered a themed Literotica contest before:

The advantages are that once you enter, your entry and all your writing gets more attention, votes, feedback and PCs than it would otherwise get. You also get support from members of the Author's Hangout.

The disadvantages are that you will also attract unwelcome attention from trolls and unenlightened critics. The sweeps of duplicated and illegal votes can cause heartbreak. You will probably curse the marking systems and fail to understand how they could possibly have done that to you. It can be a bumpy ride. If you want to know HOW bumpy, read one of the previous support threads e.g. Halloween.

If you really want your writing to improve, critics will be a factor. Entering a themed Literotica contest is one of the easier ways to get noticed.

If in doubt, go for it. You have nothing to lose but your virginity, and if you haven't lost it yet, what are you doing here?

Og

PS. And you could be eligible for the Author's Hangout Last Place (tm) Contest and win nothing but the awe and esteem of your fellow-writers.

Heh, I already have an idea for a story. Can't wait for it to begin.

Ogg you had me at Oh no.

2009 Contest Schedule

Here's the contest list for 2009. As always, these contests are held in addition to the regular monthly contests. The "starts" date is the date you can begin submitting. The "closes" date is the very last day you can submit. (So long as your story is submitted on the "closes" date, your story will be counted in the contest, even if the story isn't posted that day.)

Full contest rules can be found here.

Thanks, and have a great year!

Hmmmm maybe 2009 will be the year that Lizzy returns to contests

Although I don't expect to win, I will enter the contest(s) again this year. I already have a romance theme picked out.

"Summer Loving" is a new theme, isn't it. Did it replace the "How-to" theme that has been around the last two years?

Seems so!

Thanks for the info Selena,

I love the contests for some reason the limits imposed spark my creativity

W00t!

A little early for resolutions, but I've already made mine: to enter at least once in all contests.

Now to roll up my sleeves and get started . . . .

*insert maniacal laugh here* :D

I doubt I'll enter any more contests...at least, not as "cloudy."

When winners are made to feel so bad about winning....well, its just not worth it anymore. :(

*sigh*

Valentines Day?

*Sigh*

How do you top a heart shaped Butt plug?

Maybe if I tie up my Muse and tickle her, she'll think of something. That or pee on the table. No, no even I'm up for that.

Back to the drawing board.

Hey, now there's a story:

"Frustrated author manages to abduct a muse and tie her up in his basement." ;)

I'm in! Already rolling around a couple of ideas in my head...maybe I'll get more than one entry in this time...

This had slipped to Page 3.

I know that The Sun's Page 3 girls are good looking but I'm not sure they're suitable for Valentine's Day stories.

Please Og, no more plot bunnies. My cages runneth over.

Oh, and the kidnapped wrongly identified Muse story is now on page ten.

My plot bunnies breed plot bunnies. That's why I have to write 15 x 50-word stories. The plot bunnies would eat me out of house and home if I didn't cull them somehow.

*dances on through... or something resembling dancing... damn lack of balance*

Three weeks to go and this was on page SIX!!!

Get writing people.
