Illinois Governor Arrested...

I thought this issue was beyond partisanship, and was just about right vs. wrong. But Rob chose to inject parties into it, so, why not continue?

When Bill Clinton was indicted for his, ah, peccadilloes, every Democrat in the land rolled out to defend him (it's just sex! It's a personal matter!). But in this case, nobody, Dem or Rep, is defending Blagojevich. It's nice to know that the Democrats have finally found a level of behavior that they cannot condone......Carney

That's because Rod the Sod never learned to play nice with the other kiddies. He doesn't have a friend left in the world.

Right now he's thinking, "I'm too pretty to go to prison."

billie is the best salesperson in the world! he has charm and can sell anyone anything....he is the master....and wait, a bj is not sex! lol

One of the most remarkable things in all this is how Obama came up through the slime of Illinois politics without being corrupted himself. I told you guys this was true way back during the primary season, that he was clean as a whistle, but you didn't believe me, insisting he was just another Chicago Machine hack, and now I'm here to stick my tongue out and tell you you were wrong and I was right! :p Take it from me, he had nothing to do with Rezko and he had nothing to do with Blago. As I've said all along, Obama is from Chicago but not of it.

Blagojevich is a smear on the Democratic party because people have known he was a shameless crook and lowlife since at least 2006 and they didn't do anything about it. Before that he was more or less okay, or at least he kept his larceny within acceptable bounds, but since then he's been running a kleptocracy and he's been under one investigation after another, which is why Obama and most pols with half a brain steered well clear of him (including Mayor Daley). There was talk of impeachment long before he was caught in this current scandal. You'll notice he was conspicuously absent during the Democratic convention and never appeared with Obama during the campaign, and for good reason.

So as for Obama, you can hate him for his politics or hate him for his personality, or hate him for his race, but he's not a crook and he's not a sleaze and never has been, and that's just the truth of the matter.

You might be surprised at how teens do believe anything outside of intercourse is not considered sex. Imagine the a wedding night with two highly experienced virgins.

As for Blagojevich, that dude's in lalaland. He just might be going for an insanity defense. Or maybe he'll bribe a neurologist to say he has a brain tumor that's responsible for his behavior.

It's really hard to understand the man's crass stupidity. As I've said, everyone knew he was under heavy and relentless investigation and had been for 2 years. Impeachment for corruption was in the air. And here he didn't even have the sense to make his bribery arrangements face-to-face or in an anonymous location but did it over his home phone or right in his office, the two places they were sure to have had bugged.

The day before he was busted, blagojevish went in front of the cameras and invited -- no, dared -- the media to bug him and listen in on his conversations, promising that all they'd hear was honest state's business being conducted, swearing that he was as clean as the driven snow. The man's quite mad.

I mean, this is Chicago. Have a little pride in your graftsmanship!

...

A staggering level of narcissism.

I totally don't get it. I mean, in this day and age, how can anyone think they can keep anything a secret? He's definitely a power-crazed lunatic.

He's taking a page out of Nixon's book...

I'm the Governor, whatever I do is not illegal!

Rod the Moronic is simply delusional, I guess. I read in the paper this morning that the feds started getting curious about Rod within months of the start of his first term in 2002! Geez, the guy has more bugs in his life than the Museum of Natural History and he talks openly about selling his influence? Everyone in Illinois knows that he's under ridiculous levels of scrutiny and he dares the press to tape him? Yikes, the man is a flipping clown.

Doc M, I've been trying to defend Obama for months in other fora here, as many folk want to paint him with that oh-so-broad "Chicago politician" brush. Hell, I know how bad it is here but no one has ever found anything sleazy about Obama. And if anyone thinks that the Daley machine couldn't find or invent something on him if they wanted or needed to, they're delusional as well.

Exactly. Obama isn't a delusional clown. He had to know things were hinky in Illinois before he ran for president and there was no chance of it bleeding over onto his reputation. I'm sure there's no Illinois resident who wants to punch him in the face more than Obama right now.

Is Jackson Jr. "Candidate Number 5"?

Jackson says he didn't offer campaign funds for the seat........

It's definitely going to be interesting to see how this plays out. I don't know all that much about Jesse Jackson, Jr., so I won't comment beyond saying that watching the speculations on who's who in the case is going to be a spectator sport of the highest order here in the Land of Lincoln, Drinkin' and Fraud.

Sex is not an matter for impeachment hearings. It wasn't then and it isn't now.

The rest of your statement would be closer to the truth if you removed that niggling little "finally" from it. "always" is accurate, and you know it quite well.

Oh, did the bribe Blagojevich demand involve sex? I missed that part.

Well, he did repeatedly say, "Fuck them." :D

From the sound of it, Blago is likely to develop a whole new roster of potential partners—all of them with a wardrobe ranging from a winter orange jumpsuit to the more traditional summer orange jumpsuit.

He won't be the one yelling "Fuck him!"

Much as I'd like to see a graftmonger get hard time, I have my doubts. Too many of his doppelgangers have done their time in country-club federal prisons. I suspect that he'll get the same coddling. Pity.

Maybe he'll get former Illinois Governor George Ryan as his cellmate. That ought to make for some illuminating conversation. :D

Let's see if we can listen in...

"George you damn idiot, thanks for the advice, now look at the fine mess I'm in you jackass."

"You saw what happen to me and you still went ahead with the fucking plan to sell Barack's seat. You're the fool, you pampas little ass."

Sex never has been a matter for impeachment and isn't now, assuming only consenting adults are involved. Perjury, however, might be. In all honesty, I must say that I didn't think Slick Willie's perjury rose to the level of "High Crimes and Misdemeanors" and, had I been in the Senate, I would have voted for aquittal.
