Did anyone catch who gave out the entertainer of the year award at the cma's?

I'm taping it for later, just to see how old the Eagles look these days.

ETA - the presenter was Shania Twain, who also gets the award for best cleavage of the night. The Entertainer of the Year winner was Kenny Chesney.

I thought it was funny that the Eagles were using monitors on stage and all the other bands were using in-ear systems. Apparently, you can't teach a bunch of old dogs new tricks.

The amazing thing for me was the way they were able to switch out bands behind the curtain. It can easily take a half hour to set up a band (or a half a day) and they were doing it in under ten minutes. Perhaps the show took eight hours to stage but was edited to appear live? Inquiring minds want to know.

And lastly, while country music is considered lame by many people, the actual songwriting can be quite good, craftwise, especially compared to the mindless drivel coming out pop radio. I'd say the best music being made these days is the stuff that never gets on the radio. Trying to accommodate the lowest common denominator doesn't always bring out the best in creative people.

My fave song of the night was 'You're Going to Miss This' by Trace Adkins. For anyone who hasn't heard it, and is over 30 (or 50), finding it on YouTube (or actually buying the CD) could be a rewarding experience.

Heck its been that long since I saw her so I just couldn't recognize her.

I love Sugarland. And I was super glad that they won for the best lyrics and best duo.

Uh huh.

"Well, I was drunk the day my Mom got outta prison.
And I went to pick her up in the rain.
But, before I could get to the station in my pickup truck
She got runned over by a damned old train."

Yup. QUITE good...

I was trying to remember who it was that looked like bubba gump on a stump and I believe it was Alan Jackson... He just looked pissed all night everytime they went to him it was like yeah whatever I am here

That song is over 20 years old, and it was written as a C&W parody. The craft has come a long way since then. Check out the Trace Adkins song I mentioned in the previous post.

Here's the first verse and chorus of a tune that was a hit for Tim McGraw a few years ago. It was written by Steve Seskin, a California folky who accidentally fell into the Nashville scene when others started recording his songs.

I pulled into the shopping center
And saw a little boy wrapped around the legs of his mother
Like ice cream melting they embraced
Years of bad decisions running down her face
All morning I’d been thinking my life is so hard
And they wore everything they owned, living in a car
I wanted to tell them it would be ok
But I just got in my suburban and I drove away

I don’t know why they say grown men don’t cry
I don’t know why they say grown men don’t cry

Got all 3 of my girls to listen to Trace :D
They are aged 27, 22, and 20, They looked confused then embarrased. :D
Great song!

Poor Jessica Simpson didn't even get and invite, but Lil Wayne plays backup to Kid Rock? LOL Classic.

I totally agree about the country music. I love it really there are times that the songs simply speak to your life. For so many that dog country music I would only ask... what other music of this time do we have that speaks to our lives like country music does. A friend of mine used to say "heck our lives would be great if it was like a country song that you played in reverse" that always made me smile.

And I like that song also. Not fond of him but I like the song.
