...And lastly, while country music is considered lame by many people, the actual songwriting can be quite good, craftwise, especially compared to the mindless drivel coming out pop radio. I'd say the best music being made these days is the stuff that never gets on the radio. Trying to accommodate the lowest common denominator doesn't always bring out the best in creative people...
Uh huh.
"Well, I was drunk the day my Mom got outta prison.
And I went to pick her up in the rain.
But, before I could get to the station in my pickup truck
She got runned over by a damned old train."
Yup. QUITE good...

I pulled into the shopping center
And saw a little boy wrapped around the legs of his mother
Like ice cream melting they embraced
Years of bad decisions running down her face
All morning I’d been thinking my life is so hard
And they wore everything they owned, living in a car
I wanted to tell them it would be ok
But I just got in my suburban and I drove away
I don’t know why they say grown men don’t cry

I'm taping it for later, just to see how old the Eagles look these days.
ETA - the presenter was Shania Twain, who also gets the award for best cleavage of the night. The Entertainer of the Year winner was Kenny Chesney.
I thought it was funny that the Eagles were using monitors on stage and all the other bands were using in-ear systems. Apparently, you can't teach a bunch of old dogs new tricks.
The amazing thing for me was the way they were able to switch out bands behind the curtain. It can easily take a half hour to set up a band (or a half a day) and they were doing it in under ten minutes. Perhaps the show took eight hours to stage but was edited to appear live? Inquiring minds want to know.

My fave song of the night was 'You're Going to Miss This' by Trace Adkins. For anyone who hasn't heard it, and is over 30 (or 50), finding it on YouTube (or actually buying the CD) could be a rewarding experience.

Poor Jessica Simpson didn't even get and invite, but Lil Wayne plays backup to Kid Rock? LOL Classic.
