Sometimes I despair of certain members of my sex. I've been thinking about this for a bit and have decided that there is no way I can figure it out alone.

Scene: The Dinah Shore Open. Officially a golf tournament on the LPGA tour and unofficially the largest lesbian orgy on the planet. The sponsors maintain that there is no connection, BTW.

In the main hotel where the partiers gather there is great excitement among the male staff. Mostly because the ladies tip like drunken sailors but also because so much female flesh is on display . . . and a lot of it fit and sexy! However, there are always a few (or more than a few) of what I can only call male "camp followers" hanging around hoping to be invited into a threesome by a couple of lusty lezzes.

Huh? Say What? Yes, Virginia, there are men who think this way.

My first reaction is one gigantic "Doh!" but I wonder. Do such things happen? Really? I have my doubts, thinking that it's simply one more first class example of male self-delusion but could . . . it . . . happen?

Sure, it could happen!

It snows in Palm Springs, once in a while, too, you know.

But yeah-- these women travel in from all over the country for the once in a year chance to be in an all-dyke environment. If they want lusty threesomes, my bet is on the third being female as well. :p

Do any of these staff have first-hand stories of lust in the dunes to tell? Or is it always a guy who knows a guy who?

LOL Fat chance IMO. I've become pretty good friends with a couple of lesbians and have been to parties at their house a few times over the summer. Everyone there was exceptionally nice and you could sit and have pleasant conversations with any of them. But what was EXCEEDING clear was that the ladies had NO sexual interest in me or any other straight or gay guy there. None. Nana. Ziltch. The only real hook up I ever did see was commented on by the girls with "Bi bitch" and the such. It just AIN'T gonna happen with 100% woman loving lesbians.

You didn't have your bags packed, did ya, V.M.? ;):D

Are you kidding? My reaction to the story I read was along the lines of "How stupid can some men get?" If I was going to run off for some "extra-curricular" my chances would be a lot better in Baja during Spring Break. And I'm over 60!

Don't despair, vm. This is merely the eternal blind optimism of the the species (emphasis on "blind".)

In principle, it's no different than women being attracted to the baddest of the "bad boys" and telling themselves (and each other) that he "simply hasn't met the right woman yet" or that "my love can change him."

Alright, make it a combination of blind optimism and self-delusion--but it's by no means exclusively a male characteristic.

You know, that makes me feel better. Really it does.

Except that now I feel bad that everybody is so dumb. Sigh

Who are these "everybody" of whom you speak, grasshopper? There are the hell of a lot more men NOT at the Dinah Shore Classic trolling for strange than are, and a LOT more women who wouldn't DREAM of making a permanent hookup with a "bad boy."

You should read Tailspin. It's an in-depth look at the history of the group of Naval pilots known as Tailhook. Tailhook used to have its annual parties in Vegas at the Hilton, and they would routinely destroy the third floor in doing so. Drunken orgy? That term hardly describes what happened at Tailhook gatherings. Eventually it resulted in legal action taken against various members of Tailhook and against the Department of the Navy due to the sexual harassment of female officers and companions that attended.

And FYI, the term "sexual harassment" is an understatement as well.

Several years ago I had a gay pal who liked a slice of pussy occasionally.

1. I was in a bar with some friends and a beauty starts chatting me up. I was feeling pretty good until I remembered I was in a lesbian bar, so I shrugged and introduced her to my equally lovely friend.

2. I was at a small party and on the way to the bathroom passed two of my friends who were in a relationship and sharing a girl kiss in a bedroom. I told them my birthday was coming up soon and they laughed and said, "In your dreams."

But what is life without hope, eh?

It seems to me we just spent like the last three weeks talking about how odious generalities are when it comes to talking about sexual proclivities, that you can never tell what a person will be like.

That being said, I imagine the chances of a male turning a lesbian straight are about the same as a gay man turning a straight man gay: possible, but really not very likely.

Which also brings to mind this: How come we don't have a word for male homosexuals, like we have "lesbians" for females?

Homosexual, like so many other words in the English language, is male by default. You know; like Hero, Captain, Convict, race car driver, Chef...

That's why someone came up with a different word for female homosexuals. So there could be a word that was female by default.

My daughter has commented on this in her own way; for halloween one year, she was "Girl Batman." and one of her comics was titled "Girl Caveman.":D
