After too many years in power, the Republicans have reached the end of their good sense, creativity and public approval. The same thing happened to the Democrats when Reagan was swept into power and will, in due time, happen again. The same thing is happening in Britain. After years and years of New Labor, the next election will most likely go Tory, just as our northern neighbors threw the Liberals so far out that they have fallen off the edge of the world. This is the real genius of democracy. All collections of would-be oligarchs run their course and need to be replaced. When the people speak, it can and is done. Under other systems it requires blood.

Unfortunately VM, the conservatives up here are conservatives in the G.W. Bush mode. Greedy, utterly sure of their truth and willing to do anything to implement it, and not the least concerned for the welfare of anybody but themselves.

Oh and they only form the government. They aren't in power. Although they have the most seats the other parties have more seats so could defeat them if the 'conservatives' get too pushy.
