JBJ, I have to say that I find your statement about the "camps" of the Black community interesting and pretty close to at least my reality. I think there are perhaps more than just those two camps, or maybe just subgroups within each camp, but I do see agree that there is a split, and that obviously one camp tends to be more vocal than the other. I don't know that your friend Amicus would agree though.

Speaking of Amicus, I'm with Liar on this one. Although I dislike or disagree with what he has to say a majority of the time, I certainly do not want to see it censored. To do so would be to admit that anyone can censor what I have to say because it may offend someone. That's how we ended up with the ridiculous, sanitized, PC version of everything that we have now. Besides, I don't believe that keeping someone from expressing their disdain or hatred for me makes them like me more; it simply gives me one less clue that I should probably stay away from them.

Don't have an ax to grind in this particular "discussion," but must say that this posting comes out an obvious non sequitur. How can you say nothing in the rants is correct in one breath and than indicate in the next that you wouldn't even read them? I missed a question when I was being tested where you were shown pictures and were supposed to identify the missing thing - I missed the missing struts on a picture of a girl with an umbrella - shit, I'm form New Mexico, I'm not sure I had ever even seen an actual open umbrella before at that point.

Empirically, it's been demonstrated that minority populations the world over exhibit exactly the same IQ deficit that African Americans exhibit, which includes Palestinians and Irish Catholics, and is thought to be the result of social stress of this very nature.

Typically, these groups are less socially mobile, and more prone to poverty which correlates with crime - adjusted for poverty, San Fransisco has a higher crime rate than Detroit.

Finally, even if this were all true, that intelligence is purely genetic, why are Asians IQ higher than ours? If you're gonna argue this "master race" bullshit, I think you better just go on and learn Chinese.

Thank you, and not that it matters and I seldom use anecdotal contentions to make a point, however...

I grew up in the poor sections of Nashville, Tennessee, Indianapolis, Indiana, and a mixed race housing project in Tacoma, Washington in the forties and lived in close proximity to many black families.

It was not all a negative experience: I learned to use a knife to defend myself before age nine, I learned to run with a 'pack', again, in self defense at the same age.

I acquired my love of American Jazz from two black airmen in a barracks in Goose Bay, Labrador during my military service, one became a friend and we corresponded for years, he lived in New Orleans.

Later in life, I worked with those who were of different ethnic origins, including Black, Hispanic and Vietnamese. Necessities required I rent a room in a black man's home, out in the country, a horse ranch, to be near a work place. I found his family to be like any other family and we got along well.

I did discover, in all truth, that I prefer the company of my own ethnic similarities, I prefer the food, music and culture of those like me and find some things from other ethnic groups highly objectionable and repulsive.

I also lived in Hawaii for several years and discovered that even the Asian sub groups, Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, all have prejudices and biases to the point the will not allow their children to even play with others and none of them would socialize with us, 'haoles', white folk, and the native Hawaiians hated everyone,quite like Cloudy expresses hatred of anything white.

I have no innate hatred or disdain for any ethnic group and certainly prefer some over others and since it was a girl on a high school tennis team that beat my ass in competition, that probably explains my intolerance of lady folk.

The correlation between poverty and crime is however, largely one of opportunity and perception - the rise in the crime rate in the Sixties and Seventies cannot be attributed to poverty, it actually correlates with the spread of television - and it wasn't violence on TV that was responsible, it was the presentation of a mythical White suburban middle class that created what is called perception of inequality, which does correlate quite closely with criminal behavior, i.e., if you think you're being treated unfairly, you're more likely to engage in illegitimate economic activity, commit crimes of rage, revenge, etc. - this is no less true of chumps like amicus who think they're being put upon, using distorted crime statistics to justify their own crimes.

The second factor w/regard to poverty is also one of perception: the incidence of at risk behavior rises, not falls, with socioeconomic status, i.e., drug and alcohol abuse, unsafe sex and unwanted pregnancy, etc. - what is different are that the higher you rise in socioeconomic status, the more extensive the intervening social networks become - in short, there are people with money and influence to help you into rehab, get an abortion, or keep your name out of the paper - I've seen it happen a million times.

What you can really say about impoverished Black youths, is that they're arrested and convicted at much higher rates than their White peers who can afford better lawyers, or pack them off to Switzerland.

Blacks have higher High School dropout rates, but are more likely than Whites to graduate college, and less likely to engage in White collar crime once in the employment market - i.e., once they climb out, they're more likely to succeed than their Whites peers.

Like all averages, they are made up of some highs and some lows. If the difference between the average for men and the average for women is as small as you say it is, it would mean that some men rank higher than some women and that some women rank higher than some men. The range for both groups is much more than 2.8 or 3.63.
