"Lipstick on a Pig" has been moved off center stage as full coverage has been diverted to Hurricane Ike as it approaches the Texas coast.
I choose to point out that local authorities in Texas, 'first responders', as they are called, at the city, country and state level are making preparations and issuing warnings and 'FEMA', the federal government, is pretty much in the background, as it should be.
The 'media' is there in full force, of course, as they were during Katrina, even asshole Geraldo Rivera turned his back on the ocean and got knocked on his ass, I think I hurt myself laughing.
The oil industry has already warned of shortages and price increases as 20 percent of the nations gasoline is refined in the Galveston, Houston area, let us see if the media rolls out the price gouging accusations against the industry this time around.
The industry has also informed the consuming public of offshore rigs on onshore facilities being shut down in preparation for the storm, as they did prior to Katrina, but no one noticed.
While the Mayor of New Orleans strutted and pomped and talked the talk, as did the Governor of Louisiana, who hindered efforts by Red Cross agencies and federal assistance, the politicians and people of Texas, perhaps with knowledge gained from Katrina, are on the job in full force.
As Bush was already hated by the left for 'stealing' the previous two elections, it was easy for the media to bash Bush and Fema for what was then the largest natural disaster to visit the US in modern times, it was really the laxity of Louisiana official and the ignorance of the population of New Orleans that led to the true disaster that was Katrina.
As I write this, "Ike" is still several hours offshore and even the precise landfall is not yet determined, but I thought, as I watch, of the similarity of events and wonder when the left and the media that represents them, will weigh in with the propaganda.
They will, just wait and see..
