McCain confirms Sarah Palin!

5 kids, the youngest a 4 month-old with Down syndrome.

She'll be able to make a strong pro-life argument.

I can't quote numbers but doesn't it seem during every election there is this huge conversation regarding swing voters and who will pull who off the fence. Then when election day comes, the same percentages vote Republican and Democrat as they always do, Perot being the only real exception. Its the same for increasing voter turn out. I remember reading that the "Rock the Vote" campaign looked to be pulling massive numbers of 18-22 years olds into voting booths in 2004. Then when election day came that demographic had a actual increase of something like 1%. So will this actually mean anything?

It's really easy to see this VP pick as pandering and hypocritical. The same can be said for Obama picking Biden though. Biden is an OLD Washington insider who has been there longer than McCain. Don't get me wrong, Obama chose a VP with years of foreign policy experience and experience in general. McCain chose...the 2 year governer of Alaska? For those of us who actually might be swayed, advantage Obama.

Yeah, but look at the photo op opportunities. Young beautiful woman with a nice family to counter the Obamacamelot shots at the convention...

So its NOT about

Women

Equal rights

Glass ceilings etc

its about the LIB/DUM WOMAN

Not a WOMAN, but the RIGHT WOMAN that fits the LIB mold

and Hillary had WHAT experience? DOING WHAT?

SP has done MORE then BAM/Biden/ClintBITCH put together

But cause she is a RW and a REPOH you enlightened souls will shit on her

And herein lies the only thing that mccain has going for him.

Fear.

Same thing that drove us to a war that pretty much is universally seen as a dismal failure except by a few chickenhawks on the right.

Great campaign platform.. If you're trying to become fuhrer of Germany, and the year is 1933... not such a great one for the united states in 2008.

Thank you for saying what I was thinking but was too sickened by reading that to actually respond.

Background? Beauty pageants? Yippee.

Her hubby works for BP? Great, I'm sure she'll get that gouging under wraps.

And she admits using marijuana. Great. Chong with tits could be sitting #2.

Experience? Two terms on city council, one as mayor and 19 whole months as governor. WOW. Her resume makes John Quincy Adams' look like Paris Hilton's.

Brilliant.

Is this really the sum of experience that I've been hearing the "conservatives" crow over?

The only thing I've heard about her recently is that her team is under ethics investigation for abuse of power in Alaska. Apparently one of her aides had her ex brother-in-law fired from his State Trooper job after a messy divorce and child custody battle with her sister.. I suppose the aide that made several calls to her ex brother-in-law's Lieutenant did so of his own accord with no instruction from her.

Councilman, Mayor, Governor - certainly speaks more for Executive experience than any of the others.

Alaskans love her. In 2007, Palin had an approval rating often in the 90s.
A poll published by Hays Research on July 28, 2008 showed Palin's approval rating at 80%.

She's a tough reformer who kicked out all of the fraud and waste in government almost immediately after taking office. She drives around in her own car, saving tax dollars on the official security detail. She got rid of the executive jet and flies commercial when she needs to fly. She's a strong advocate for Alaskan resources, including natural gas and oil. She's an advocate for gun rights and woman's rights and the right to life, taxation with representation for all - all upholding the constitution as written, not modified to fit causes.

Palin kept her campaign promises, reducing her own salary, as well as reducing property taxes by 60%

Palin was appointed Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, where she served from 2003 to 2004 until resigning in protest over what she called the "lack of ethics" of fellow Alaskan Republican leaders, who ignored her whistleblowing complaints of legal violations and conflicts of interest. Another party maverick whose priorities are for the people, not the party.

Highlights of Governor Palin's tenure include a successful push for an ethics bill, and also shelving pork-barrel projects supported by fellow Republicans. Palin successfully killed the Bridge to Nowhere project that had become a nationwide symbol of wasteful earmark spending. "Alaska needs to be self-sufficient, she says, instead of relying heavily on 'federal dollars,' as the state does today."

tons of paperwork...

My point is that Alaska governors have fewer hard choices to make than do governors of any other state. They literally have more money than they can spend, which is why residents get checks in the mail.

She is known as a reformer. She took on a corrupt bureaucracy in Alaska and prevailed, she kicked ass and took names. She came out of it with an 80% approval rate. She's right on top of the energy issues in Alaska and is known for her distance from big oil.

McCain is also "known as a reformer," and it's bullshit. So was Eliot Spitzer. The number of real reformers in American politics can be counted on both hands. By a snake.

The Gambler

Are you kidding me wanting to elect a guy that throws a crap shoot to make an important decision?

I really hope Hillary-Heads see through this and don't fall for this obvious ploy.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious that a woman was chosen because the GOP is hoping to attract those people that are pissed at Hillary not winning the nomination.

tell ya what...

i'm gonna open my ears for the next few days...

yeah, so obvious. His second best choice was Romney and I'm sure Mccain thought he wouldn't hold up head to head with Biden because Mccain kicked his ass in a debate for starters.....

Gee whiz

it turns out

its all BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Palin was chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. I'm no expert, but that definitely sounds like a position where it's real easy to get your hands dirty.

And we'll see if she will change her position on ANWR drilling to match the one McCain has always had (I'm not sure he still has it, given how much he's flip flopped on everything else).

Eh? Obama is clean, despite that silly flap over Tony Rezko. McCain and Biden are reasonably clean for men who have spent decades in the U.S. Senate. Palin's the only one who might have some surprises in store in that regard.

No longtime politician is clean. Not one of them. There is always something in the closet that will eventually come out because they are people and there are very, very few people in this country who don't have something to hide.

McCain said NO drillig at ANSW when gas was $2

at $4 its a different circumstance

its not a flip flop

its a change due to a changed circumstance!
