So, if McCain was waiting to name a running mate until Obama did, who do you think he'll pick?

I don't have any idea who that will be, but I'd laugh my socks off and think he was really being clever if he chose a woman--like Elizabeth Dole--to syphon off enough of the Hillary disgruntled backers to squeak into office. There may be other women out there, but Dole comes to mind as having the credentials for it and not a great number of enemies.

What do you think--either on "who will" or "who should"?

I'm betting on Joe Lieberman.

Joe is pretty pissed with the Democrats for the shabby treatment he got from the Lefties, before and after the election. If McCain picks Joe I think McCain wins the election with no sweat.

My bet is that ole Joe has warn too thin with the electorate now. (Although I agree with him on the shabby treatment he got in his last election.)

If I were McCain, I'd pick Dole. She's the only potential running mate who concerns me from my vantage on the other side.

I think Lieberman would be a mistake, but one I'd be happy to see McCain make. :)

mccain and romney have a lot of personal animosity, but stranger things have happened.....

I dont think it will be Mitt.

I suspect McSame will pick someone he respects and someone who shares his philosophy. That will be Lieberman or some other disaffected Democrat like Sam Nunn or Zell Miller.

Think back. The Democrats had a decent team 20 years ago, in the 80s. The current crop of Republicans arent impressive.

Bob Graham, another Democrat, would be a great choice.

If Queeg picks a decent Democrat the nation will elect him.

Of course, you've stated several times that McCain has a lock on the election anyway. So, I guess he could pick Charles Manson. Right? :)

I dont support McCain. I dont intend to vote. I didnt think he had a lock on the election, because of conservative disdain for him, but Obama is making it easy for McCain, and if Mccain picks a good VP, the election is his.

I think McCain's first choice is Lieberman, but L. has already expressed disinterest. He may change his mind, though. If he does, and is the candidate, McC will win by an even bigger landslide than I have already predicted. :)

Someone like Liddy Dole might have the same result.

No, sr, I don't think he will pick Charlie Manson. For one thing, the Reps at the convention would never go along with that choice.

I WISH he would pick Lieberman.

I don't think McCain would be able to ramp his ego down enough to pick Mitt. BUT, I also don't think McCain is the boss of his own campaign.

I hope for Condoleaza Rice or Lieberman. Rice would be my first choice. Really offset Obama's with the Racial vote plus the woman has brains!!!

That Rice thing just won't die, will it? I grant that she will get some votes, but she absolutely is not qualified for the position. She has and demonstrates zero managerial/governing expertise (you should hear what those in the State Department have to say about her leadership ability), and she has no history of successful accomplishments in government service. Cheney and Rumsfeld pushed her around like a rag doll--despite the lesser Bush salivating over her. She's probably a pretty good university professor. (And Martin Sheen went from there to the White House on TV, so what the hey?)

Sahara Plain the Governor of Alaska. While she is relatively unknown she has pretty good conservative credentials.

She has also beat up on the spendopubilicands from her state. That alone should give her some credence with the true smaller government and spend less conservatives.

She has more time as Governor then Obama has in the Senate. She has been on the job almost every day. Obama was a senator for 147 days until he announced he's candidacy and has spent damn little time there since.

Don't think it will happen but, hope springs eternal.

Mitt's the man!

He's savvy and astute and could fill Maverick John's shoes in a heartbeat.

Which may be all that separates him from the oval office anyway. ;)

qualifications to be president

"No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States." Article 2 Section I

That is the only qualification to be president... and there is nothing in the constitution about the VP.... always makes me wonder... we could just pick up anyone off the street and make them VP

Not really. Apples and oranges. Those are the raw parameters of being eligible to hold the office. It doesn't take a lot of brainpower to realize that it takes a lot more than that to actually do the job successfully.

Even when Obama was in the Senate, he voted "Present" more than anything else.

Tell me Box, when are you gonna give up this silly front that you are NOT solidly in the GOP side of every debate?

I'm waiting... with some patience already shown... for you to make any kind of comment that could even remotely be considered neutral.

Breaking tie votes in the Senate, attending diplomatic functions, being a party mouthpiece, et.al. is not especially challenging IMHO.

Moreover, few VP's are or were ever chosen as potential successors; rather they are chosen for their charisma, malleability, vote getting ability or their clout in Congress.

Thus we have presidents by default such as Truman, Johnson and Ford.

John Nance Garner (FDR's VP in the first terms) once remarked that "The Vice-Presidency isn't worth a pitcher of warm piss."

In many ways, he was right. :D

Can you please try to respond to someone without denigrating them...just once?
