God didn't write the bible

Most modern versions of the Bible contain 66 books, 39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament. Originally, the number of books in the Bible was 49 because the Jews divide the 39 Old Testament books into 22 books by combining several books into one (e.g., they combine the twelve Minor prophets into one book). The New Testament canon has remained stable at 27 books since early times. A complete list appears below.

Jesus loves you, but I think that you're an asshat.

Seriously, people, he has as much a right to his superstitions as anyone else.

If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. And he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.

Here are the facts. Clinton had the backing of the popular governor of Pennsylvania, as well as the mayors of the two major cities and 100 other mayors. She had the help of the most popular Democratic president in a generation, Bill Clinton. Obama had the backing of Sen. Bob Casey, a Catholic opposed to abortion who in the end did not persuade enough people like him to vote for Obama. The senator from Illinois also had more money and spent more than twice what Clinton spent in Pennsylvania.
In the end, Gov. Rendell and other others backed Clinton not only because Bill called in his chits, but because they think she's the better candidate. And their supporters voted for Clinton because they decided as well that she is the better candidate. But in some respects, Obama's role as a challenger to the Clinton dynasty makes his task the same as running against an incumbent, even though a brilliant campaign strategy and missteps by Clinton have made him the frontrunner.
So here are some more facts. In the count by the Associated Press Wednesday morning, Clinton won 80 of the 158 Pennsylvania delegates and Obama won 66, with 12 still not allocated as they apportioned the county votes to congressional districts. Leaving aside those 12, the Pennsylvania vote brought Obama's pledged delegate total to 1,483 and Clinton's to 1,331, still a gap of more than 150. In the popular vote, Clinton's win in Pennsylvania cut Obama's lead by 200,000 to about 600,000.

Actually, since the Council of Trent (1545), the Catholic canon includes the Apocrypha.

Jesus said, "The power of hate is strong, but Love conquers all. God is Love."
Love conquers all with fire and brimstone?

God didn't write the bible

The consensus from the Christian, Jewish and Islamic point of view is that He wrote through the original authors who were pretty much Moses and the disciples with a few others thrown in for good measure.

Who edited it and decided what went in is another thing entirely.

Point of order....Islam didn't exist at the time the bible was written.

I didn't say that it did. Islam does recognize the Bible and the people and events in it. At least the Old Testament anyway.

The editing was and is done by many people. That's why we have different versions.
What books went in was ultimately decided by the Catholics but the argument is that God was working through them during that period.
Don't know and ultimately don't really care. You get what you want from the Bible. You can ignore it all and say it's just a bunch of poorly written fiction, you can get life lessons from it or you can get spirituality from it. Everyone is different.

this concludes our bible study today we can continue when i have more time need to go with my wife to town. bye for now

As to the statment on Islam, I stand corrected. My bad.

I pretty much agree with you on the points you raise. Only problem I have with organized religion of any flavor is when somebody tries to force feed it to me.

If I recall correctly, before the Council of Trent, the last prominent handling of the canon was at the Council of Chalcedon in 481. It standardised the 66 books presently accepted in the Protestant canon.

Something like that. I never paid much attention when those things were covered because I really don't think it matters.

Agreed.

Then 'people' started fucking things up by deciding which parts they wanted/didn't want. All allegedly in the name of God. Most notably the Catholic Church.

Most modern day Christians tend to forget that Jesus himself confronted the Priests of his time because they were corrupt. And they were acting in the name of God. He made a mess of a certain temple as I recall. It is sad that so many people think Jesus was non-confrontational and at peace with everything that went on.

Much evil has been done at the hands of those 'with god in their lives'.

And god DIDN'T write the bible. According to Catholic teaching, the writings in the bible came from "divine inspiration"... which suggests that god INSPIRED the writings in the bible.

Bettie Paige inspired my last haircut. My stylist cut my hair.

You will never know how much enjoyment I am getting putting your stupid ass on ignore.

Buh bye!

The Bible is the written revelation of the Creator God for mankind. IT CONTAINS THE ABSOLUTELY VITAL KNOWLEDGE THAT EVERYONE NEEDS DESPERATELY TO UNDERSTAND — but which would be inaccessible by any NATURAL means.

In the Bible, God speaks with authority to us through its writers. THE BIBLE, THEN, POSSESSES SUPREME AUTHORITY OVER OUR LIVES SINCE IT COMES FROM OUR OWN SUPREME CREATOR. The Bible repeats hundreds of times: "Thus saith the Lord." In Scripture, God speaks in the first person — "I" — and challenges us to test Him to PROVE whether He speaks the truth. (Isaiah 44:6-9.)

Without the Bible we can NEVER UNDERSTAND THE LESSONS OF THE PAST, THE MEANING OF THE PRESENT, AND THE GOAL OF THE FUTURE.

it was your choice to come here and read my comments, i wouild rather not speak with you in your state of mind anyway

Everyone today demands proof! People have a chip on their shoulders, so to speak. They want someone to prove whether the Bible REALLY is true. Christ said this challenging attitude would reach its climax in these last days of human civilization — just before man with his scientific ingenuity could blast all human life out of existence (Luke 18:8).

Of course it is right that we should prove it! And there is proof — proof of the most amazing kind — proof that would astound the public if the theologians were to publicly confess it! But the world is wilfully ignorant of it.

Believe it or not, the world ALREADY KNOWS OF THE PROOF but, having been deceived, is unwilling to accept it. It has SEEN the proof, FELT it, DUG it up, READ it and even PUBLISHED it! But humanity, deceived by superstition and vain religious traditions, has REJECTED the proof because it does not want to believe and SURRENDER ITS WILL to the Bible.
