Multiple members on the GB point out whoever makes racist posts regularly. Emphatically.
Should this force/move you to disassociate yourselves with that person? Absolutely not.
But, you're an intelligent person. So, you'll research it. You'll click on the links members provide, and/or you'll investigate on your own, independent of their links or influence. You'll use the "Advanced Search" feature, because it's not that hard to do. You'll take the time to do it, because it's important. And then, you'll decide whether or not you really, truly wish to associate with / stand up for that member.
If you do the research, and stand by those posting racist remarks, you'll be judged accordingly. If you refuse to do the research ("I can't be bothered to do that") and stand by those posting racist remarks, you'll be judged accordingly. All members have to go on is various personas; it's a bulletin board. Racist posts aren't a savory quality for most people and, because of this, you'll understand the reaction of the masses.
Is this a difficult concept for anyone?
(Is this thread a re-hash? I'm sure. But it doesn't hurt to repeat.)
Well said, Ror, but pearls before swine, I'm afraid.
Discuss history of any sensitive topic and all you get back is half-baked sound bites. Lazy people, dumb people?, brainwashed people. Few take the time to do ANY research or investigation before piping up with some predictable comment that they think makes them sound like they actually know something.
I suspect that that was all that was required where they went to school.
Why bother researching the historical causes of racism in America, for example, when it’s just as easy to say “Bush sucks!” and look around for knee-jerk off-topic approval.
