A few months ago I decided it was time to get serious about my career and that working at a small mom and pop, friend of the family, rinky dink financial services firm wasn't going to support the kind of growth and advancement I was looking for.

I started looking for better opportunities in the field of work I'm in and with some luck seem to have landed the job of my dreams at the company of my dreams. It's been a really hard road and there is a lot of really hard work ahead of me, but this is a tremendous victory, all things considered.

Anyway, just wanted to share.

Congrats. That's not the easiest field to be getting ahead in these days, so good luck.

The hedge fund managers are doing aight.

Actually, many of them are crying in their champagne this year. Business appears to be down and quite a few of them have lost enough to replace the GNP of more than a few small countries.

Ha ha, that's probably true, but we're all in this together, as far as the economy goes.

I'm still young enough that establishing a strong reputation and practice as an FA would not only put me way ahead of the income curve for the avg person my age, but could really put me in a good place once the economy turns around.

Good thinking. Just bear in mind that your reputation comes from those whom you serve and not those who sign your paycheck.

They're pretty much one and the same, but point taken.

I'm not looking for a quick financial answer. I think I've carved out a niche market of clientele that I really care for and could really benefit from my service. I'm sure things will come up as I put my plan into action, but for now I'm really excited not only because of the income potential, but the potential to do something really awesome and meaningful in my career.

Congratulations Marquis! Has to be a great feeling to be able to do what you want to do where you want to do it...wait, isn't that like an average day for you? ;)

Congrats but could you please elaborate a little for those of us not fluent in finance lingo or whatever that is further down the thread there? Is there a kinky hedge fund cause if so, I want in!

Congratulations, that is wonderful news! I'm about to emback on a similar journey myself.

Congratulation to the next Buffet! :rose:

It is not an easy field but it is a rewarding one, if you play your cards right.

And the above advise, is really good :)

A kinky hedge fund? Not a bad idea! ;)

(there are kosher hedge funds, green hedge funds, muslim approved hedge funds, socially responsible hedge funds ... why not a kinky one?)

I'd be more than happy to elaborate, what is it that you're asking exactly?
