I think she always looks good, I just wish she'd quit whining about her college loans (or give back her enormous salary). Why is it that so many people who complain about the high cost of college don't bat an eye at the ridiculous salaries of some of it's professors and bureaucrats....especially the ones who spend less and less time actually teaching their students, and more time farming it out to unpaid or underpaid assistants?

From the New York Times:

The average salary for full-time professors was $61,816 at institutions that grant doctorates; $50,243 at institutions that grant a master's or undergraduate degree; $45,163 at four-year baccalaureate institutions, and $43,760 at two-year colleges.

They get paid a good bit less than many professions, especially considering the length of time they must spend on their own education to be able to secure a position as a professor.

My husband makes more than that, and he never even finished high school.

Hmmm, these are not the numbers I've heard, but this is what I found with a quick check. We have had high school teachers here making close to $100k, although that includes them taking on extra duties (such as coaching extracurricular activities). I guess the problem is that you so often hear about the eggregious examples that it skews your (my) perceptions.

What about the increase in college professor salaries that is contributing to the premium fees? According to G. Dan Parker III, associate executive vice president of Texas A&M, college professor salaries in business schools have increased, with some paying $130,000 (or more) to start. Mr. Parker told the New York Times, "The salaries we pay for entering assistant professors on average is probably larger than the average salary for full professors at the university.”

According to the PayScale Research Center, a typical assistant professor, with 5-9 years of experience, normally earns an annual salary of $52,000, while a typical full professor after 20 years is earning $94,000. Mr. Parker is correct; assistant professors earning $130,000/year teaching "premium" business classes are clearly out earning the "average" full professors by quite a bit.
 
That makes sense. The people that contribute least to intellectual growth are usually paid the most.

As my favorite book on how to run a business says, "Don't hire MBAs".

What other potential first lady has been referred to not as "the wife and the mother of his children" but as a candidate's "baby mama?"
 
It is astonishing the difference an apostrophe can make. Barack Obama is Michelle's child's father. He is not her "child father." "I don't find "baby's daddy" or "baby's mama" particularly offensive, particularly in the mouth of the subject's spouse. (Just as I don't think it would be offensive for Cindy McCain to refer to her husband as her "honey," but would think differently about a third person calling the Senator "Cindy's honey.")

But calling her a baby mama or him a baby daddy is hard to see as anything other than an offensive attempt to be funny.
