...What the hell do you do?

No, seriously, this isn't entirely a bragging post. Entirely. Teh Yeti and I just broke my box springs. The bed is SAGGING in the middle. Now what the fuck am I supposed to do?

I don't really have a place to put the mattress and store the bed. 'Tis a small apartment.

The boards thing can work, or better still, an old wooden door....great for the back also. As to space, that is a problem. It has taken me over 5 years to get used to the space restrictions here and still it gets me stressed out at times. My sister was shocked when I told her that both houses we have lived in since I came here were considered on the large size and yet neither of them have a linen/storage cupboard, or even a place to put one.

Buy a new one!! ;)

I dont mean to laugh..but it reminds me of my mom's bed. It had slats under it to support the box springs but one was always too short. My ex husband were there visiting her and it was the rare occasion we were having sex when the slat fell out and slammed into her hardwood floors. My mother came running into the room to make sure we were ok....

I think the wood under the bed will help..

Hmm, too bad I don't have an old door lying around. That would work well. I went to Lowe's, and my friend gave me her discount. So I now have four 2x4s that Yeti and I are going to stick under the box springs. Maybe it'll work until I can buy a new box spring.

Ugh, I understand about the space thing. I have one closet in the entire apartment, and it's filled to capacity. I don't think I could stand not having somewhere to store things in a house!

Buy a new one!! ;)

I wish! :p

LOL, my granny had a bed that had wood under the box springs. It was too short, too, and sometimes it would fall out while you were lying in bed. You'd be staring at the ceiling, and all of a sudden, one side of the bed would drop. It was a WEIRD feeling.

But, yeah, thanks, guys. We're going to try to put the wood under the bed in a little while. Let's hope it makes a good temporary fix. :)

Too bad you live so far away for one thing and two, that your place is small. Malin and I have a king sized waterbed that we're going to end up just dumping because we cant take it with us..we use california king mattresses in it..

Gee, I know this feeling just a little bit

I've used white pine 1x4's previously. Frankly, I'm a big boy, and I can get aggressive. I've learned to reinforce my beds as a general rule. It doesn't always work, but it helps.

I've got a steel frame now, and, damn, but it slides around a lot.

Ugh, I wish I had the room. I want a bigger bed pretty badly :D

Find and old door - hollow core is fine and place it under the mattress. You bed will be better than new. I think you'll like the firm feel.

Ok.... It's not the box springs... I bent the metal fucking frame... We're heading out tomorrow to get a new one for cheap, hopefully. Wish us luck.

Word of warning...if you buy a cheap metal frame you will likely end up with the same problem, only quicker or completely snapped. Been there, done that so reinforced it with extra support legs and thick wooden beams to reinforce the side and centre metal ones. My son was greatly amused with our disaster.

I'm hoping for something from the thrift store. You know, used, so not expensive, but old, so better-made than something new in the same price range. ;)

Holy crap, I still can't believe we did that!

We did that before  LOL ended up putting the mattresses on the floor until we could afford new.

Oh this did make me chuckle. Master L has to tighten the alan key thingies on our bedframe regularly so that it doesn't collapse. It squeaks a whole lot more than back when I was single though.

I hope you manage to fix this, it's an excuse to fuck all over the rest of the apartment if ever I heard one so avoid the bed completely for a while when getting nasty is my advice.

Do what my grandpa did, make a box out of angle-iron and bolts with a board and put the mattress on it. Kept up until we took apart the box.

I don't have any helpful hints about the bed problem, I just had to say, one closet? Lucky! I didn't even know what a closet was until I was 6 years old when we visited a family friend in the suburbs.

I dream about closets. Closets and washer-dryers. Mmm, that would be a real luxury.

get a piece of plywood for between the mattress and the box springs...it will spread the pressure over a larger area and wont give as much...plus it makes it really firm

Well I have a pretty big bed. You all are welcome to come up my way and sleep with me.

Yeah, what nh23 said!!!

i have bent the metal frame before on my old bed. i have a steel, reinforced one now, thankfully.

Yeah.... We, uh.... We broke the boards...

But it happened... WHILE I WAS GETTING OFF THE DAMNED DEATHTRAP!!

I swear, her all her furniture will break up long before we ever will...

We've broken beds - but I will no longer stand anywhere near my bloke when he's shopping for a new one. He insists on grabbing hold of the foot board and shaking it to see how much noise it makes. It's just plain embarrassing.
