I've been toying with the Idea of starting a BDSM SRP thread (In the SRP Section) something along the lines of a BDSM Themed Bed and Breakfest Inn. I placed an inquiry post in the SRP Sticky, but I haven't had any response there, so I thought I'd try over here.

I don't want to start a thread and have it fizzle out after 10 posts. So, I'd like to gauge some interest first.

Thanks,
Tom

EDIT: The :rose: Red Rose Inn OOC thread is Here

Hi,

You may want to write the opening post for your thread and then repost to the sticky with a link to the thread. I've found when looking for interested parties you'll get a much better response doing that than posting to the sticky that you are looking for players. I realize that you were looking for a co-owner and I expect that you probably want her input on things, but I think a good introduction to the B&B and your character would be all you really needed to give potential joiners an idea of your writing style, etc.

Also I'm going to give you the requisite warning about group threads. They can be difficult to manage and maintain. I'm not trying to discourage you, just words from someone who has been writing in the SRPs for awhile. :rose:

As to potential interest, I may be interested, but a lot depends on who else joins and how fast the thread will be moving.

Good luck and I look forward to seeing more from you in the SRPs :)

I might also join, again depending on who else was writing and how confusing it was going to be to try to keep up with.

A few years ago I started a Lady Sally/Callahan srp type thing that had multiple players. It went pretty well all things considered but the confusion factor was insane and keeping track of who was doing what with whom was a losing battle.

Then the players that were involved started dropping off the map and the thread fizzled.

Point being, group threads can be a lot of fun, but they are a lot of work. At the very least I would be interested in seeing where one such as this went.

I think there was a similar idea a while back, but it was poorly planned and couldn't last

Good luck with this one, it might be a lot of fun.

Good luck!

I've done quite a few BDSM themed SRP's. I miss em!

Thank you all for your comments and support. Thanks for the link to the Chateau thread Caitlynne. I'd say that was pretty successful, 5 years and almost 5000 posts. I'd be happy with that :)

I may drop the B&B Idea, and go with a full service Country Inn.

Thanks for the warnings about managing a thread like this. I'm in a Star Trek SRP, and it just drags along at times. Some members have waited weeks to post to the story line. I'd like to try and avoid a similar situation with this one.

I was just wondering, has anyone ever ran a RP where there are multiple story lines, and members would link their particular posts together? For instance, I start a scene with someone, and after they post a reply, I go back and edit my post with the link to the new reply.

If it's done correctly, a reader could find a person they like to follow, and read only their posts, and the posts of the people they interact with. The only downside might be a jumbled up mix of posts in the "timeline" so if a person just read the RP straight on through, it might get a little confusing.

This might also help posters who are not able to check in daily to leave posts to continue their story. You might try to look at it like the old style Bulletin Boards, one big thread with sub-topics branching out.
Just an idea.

Hi Catalina, yes it will be in the SRP forum. I'm not sure if Lit. has specific rules about SRP's being in other areas, but this one will be in the SRP section.

Interesting idea. I come from a role play online mind set of waiting for each player to post before you post again. That can certainly become frustrating at times but it gives everyone a chance to contribute.

What I really dislike is when someone uses their post to say what my character is doing or has done. That's role playing my character.

Then there are those who think they know what BDSM is. Let's say you post about a fantasy your character has about being raped. Most women have had that fantasy, it doesn't mean they or the character wants to be raped. Yet, some yahoo who claims he knows what BDSM is, has his character rape yours.

That's when I PM with a "Hey, is that really want you want to do? I don't think it's the right move but if you keep that post as is, I will play the hell out of it." LMAO!

Another thing I hate is those who are dying to post and role play. When they get the chance they write ONE sentence or at most ONE paragraph. HUH?

Then there are the writing partners you can't please. What you write isn't sexy to them. What they write isn't sexy to you. Make it more real, they say. You do, they think you need therapy.

There are lots of challenges with people taking the story in a direction you didn't anticipate. People get their feelings hurt and all kinds of mess.

My most enjoyable SRP's have been when there was PM consultations as to how the story develops. Since we were all on the same team, it just worked better. Like Saving the World One Bra at a Time. Think La Femme Nikita meets Alias and they turn out to be twin sisters, not identical. Woot!

Hi FurryFury,

I understand your feelings about having your character role played, i'm getting better at not doing it myself, LOL. The thing that bothers me so much though as a short-story writer, you get in the habit of trying to direct the story line. I have to constantly remember in a RP that I'm only controling my actions, and it's up to the other person to follow suit.

The story originator should have the final say in how the story flow's. I agree PM contact is vital, and so is an OOC thread where everyone can air out grievances, help with the flow of the story, and so on...

Tom

The Red Rose Inn (A BDSM SRP) OOC Thread is now active

I have posted a link to the :rose:Red Rose Inn OOC thread, in the first post in this thread. I'm still editing the first post over there, so please be patient for a bit.

Once we have a few people sign up, i'll start the IC thread.

I'm glad we agree on so many SRP issues.

I've often wondered what it would be like if someone acted as game master for a SRP though. I don't think I've ever seen that done.

Sorry, i'm not familiar with that term.

Everyone

I have just up-dated the first post in the OOC support thread. if you would like to sign up, please choose either a Guest or Staff profile. The IC thread will start shortly.

Thanks,
Tom

Have you ever role played table top? Online they usually call the person who runs the game the storyteller. In old style D&D it was the Dungeon Master. I still play that sometimes. It's one area I've been a master but I prefer to be a player. LOL.

Good morning Furry,

I see now, a narration of the story. In this case I don't think it will be necessary. I may have to steer the story a bit, to keep thing's on track, but for the most part, I'd like for the story to take on a life of it's own.

In the past I did a lot of writing on yahoo groups, in RP threads. The Red Rose Inn is loosely based on one of those RP's.

However, one of my favorites was a town set in the Old West, Smackerville Heights. The town was filled with Brat's and Dom's, and it was strictly spanking and sex. It had certain elements of BDSM in it, mainly rope bondage, but for the most part it was a brats run amok type of story. It was mutually agreed that everyone could write actions for anyone, and we had a blast with it.

We took writing actions for others to a whole new level there, LOL and everyone loved it. We wrote long action posts, and the plot lines could change at the drop of a hat. We went to enormous lengths to put each other into impossible situations, that we then had to write ourselves out of. For instance, you could be in the saloon having a drink with the guy's, and in the next couple of posts, find yourself deep in some old forgotten gold mine, tied up, with a lit stick of dynamite up your ass.

Sounds like fun.

No, a storyteller isn't necessary. As I said, I've not seen a thread done that way here. I'd just like to. I'd like to see how it went. That would be interesting.

The GM or storyteller would let the players come in, describe the characters and get started.

Then s/he would throw non player characters and situations at them. This wouldn't be done randomly but with a storyline / adventure in mind. S/he still would be able to control the players and wouldn't be a player but would keep the storyline somewhat on track.

I miss that kind of play. When I began playing online I quickly found out that there were few true GM's or storytellers at all. Many had the title but really they just let the players do whatever and rarely ran a storyline the way people do table top.

We used to call it "Game Master" in the on line RP's I participated. I've GM'ed in on line RP games, but I prefer to just write my character [or a few in some cases]. I've actually never role played on line without a GM. That could be a mess if the players weren't experienced role players.

Good luck with the game BTW. I don't have the time to play, but I will read it. :cattail:

I agree it can be and often is a mess.
