Last month, I wrote a story and a fan of this site suggested that I submit it here, so I did. I enjoy utilizing italics in my writing - it conveys emphasis in dialog, which I find to be important in telling a story. Upon reading the submission instructions, I found that italics were not acceptable in the automatic browser-based tool, so I saved the story in MS Word and attached the file according to the instructions.

Two glaring occurences that frustrate me: The italics still didn't show up in the published version, and for reasons I can't understand, the story changed fonts unexpectedly in the middle.

I would have been better off using the browser-based tool.

1. Why can't writers use italics? Is this a difficult option to code into the script of the browser-based tool?

2. Can I remove the story, and then resubmit it in the browser-based tool?

The font change must be annoying to the reader, I know it annoys the hell out of me.

Thanks, in advance, for any input into this issue.

You can use italics in the cut and paste submission form. You just have to code for them: < I > in front of what you want italicized and < /I > in back (without those character spaces behind and in front of the angle brackets).

Ok, then some HTML is permitted in the tool, thank you for the reply. Any ideas on my second question?

No need to remove the story. Resubmit it with the html tags and any other corrections you choose. Use the same title, but type Edit next to the title. Use the comments box to request that they replace the posted story with this one.

When you use the cut and paste method, you can preview the post before submitting it. This should allow you to see if the html tags work and if the font problem is fixed.

when you save it as a .doc file, you need to put in the "notes" section that the story has itilacs....otherwise they wipe the story clean.....not sure why

Thank you very much, I really appreciate the help - I will do exactly that. And thanks for the fast reply!

Now that I know the browser-based tool accepts HTML, I won't have to send anything in .doc so the situation is resolved. Thanks so much!

Haven't done that with my stories--I just cut and paste into the form from Word.

it's the only way i submit....the directions say it will take longer to be approved that way, but i've had stories up within 3 or 4 days. i started because i didn't know how to to html coding.....i do now but now i'm used to submitting the entire file and it works for me

If your HTML skills are lacking and you wish for faster publication, get a free weblog somewhere (Blogspot, Livejournal, etc.), then copy your Word document and paste it into the blog entry and publish. Then, edit the blog entry, and it will magically appear with the HTML tags. Copy and paste into Literotica's upload thingy.

It's magical, and finger lickin' good.

thanks....but i'm good.....i'm happy w/ my wait before submits and i understand html tags now anyway

thanks for the info

The font chance is caused by the use of Center, Blockquote, Left, Right... any of the formatting that aligns text somewhere. How that got through and your italics went kaplooie, I have no clue *laugh*

This is a bug in the text processor that I'm told is under review, and there's no way around it except to not use any of these tags until its fixed. As soon as you use this type of formatting, the font face and size changes until the end of the page, at which time it returns to normal on the next page, unless you use alignment formatting again.

I don't know "why" but I do have a good idea "how". They will reduce everything to base text before putting it through their formatter; the easiest way with MSWord is simply to <save as> <Plain Text> and MSWord strips out ALL the formatting, styles, etc.

Returning to "why", it may have to do with minimising effort?
