Not a big Costner fan, but he definitely stepped out of character for this one. William Hurt, who played his alter ego, was fantastic but under-utilized. Demi Moore as a cop? Nuh-uh. There went my suspension of disbelief.
The movie had more twists and turns than my colon, and the ending wasn't much better, in terms of result...
And will the "And then I woke up" ever fade out of existence as a plot device??

Wasn't even planning on seeing it when I did. I was just going to buy some shirts and khakis. I was walking through the mall when I smelled popcorn. This is one of my favorite smells ever, so I thought through all of the movies that I knew were coming out this summer, trying to find something worth watching so I could go get me some popcorn and watch a movie along with it. Then, it struck me like a brick. I fell over there in the corridor of the mall as if having a seizure (total lie). I ran up to the theater on the 4th floor, and checked show time. I had over an hour to waste until the next showing. So I went back down to the 1st, bought a DVD of Ronin, was tempted by the Pirates trilogy (they had special editions of the second two, not the first), and then ran out to my car, and back up to the theater and enjoyed the show
Next on my list is probably Iron Man, then Batman, Hellboy 2, and whatever else I feel like
Mmmmmm movie theatre popcorn.......*drool*

Just saw it. It was touching and beautifully done. I couldn't help feeling though, that that dude was just a smart dumbass. Anyway, it was based on a book by Jon Krakauer. Read his "Into Thin Air" - a harrowing account of a Mount Everest ascent gone wrong.
And next weekend, go rent Grizzly Man, another touching story of man and wild, this one about a guy who couldn't reconcile his homosexual leanings - at least that's how I recall it.

The Golden Compass. Bottom line, it sucked. Visually stunning and outstanding. The story was really weak, though. Weak in the sense of a good story truncated. It was pretty clear that major parts of the book were skipped over. Probably should have had several parts/movies. And I'm told the books were very good. So, bleh.

The Page Turner, Starring Catherine Frot
Unquestionably one of the best films I've ever seen, The Page Turner (La Tourneuse de Pages) is a French offering that on the face appears to be a straight suspense genre film, but surprises on many levels because of the powerful performance of Catherine Frot. A revenge-seeking young pianist plots to destroy an older and more socially fortunate woman who hurt her career early on. Lesbian tension abounds and the ending shocks. Excellent stuff. Highly recommended. (Not, of course, for those who prefer American mega-films with action heros and lots of special FX.)

I just saw the new Indiana Jones movie. It was okay, but basically "more of the same" and not significantly different than the first three. I was kind of expecting something a little more, after 19 years and all. Oh well. Still worth a couple hours and ten bucks.

Hard Candy is a great art film for those who wish to see predator turn victim. Chris Hansen would shed a tear of joy.
The Great Debaters starring and directed by Denzel Washington was a wonderful film based on a true story about a debate team from Wiley College.

Yes, Hard Candy is a delicious treat.
And while we're at it:
Brick is a film noir murder mystery featuring contemporary high school students who talk and behave like 1940's-style gangsters (from IMDb).
Elephant is also a great little movie. It's a 2003 crime-drama set on the day of a massive school shooting. The film takes place a short time before the shooting occurs, following several characters as they live out their school lives, unaware of what is about to unfold. (from Wiki)
All of these are worth watching.

Iron Man officially kicks ass
For all you comic book geeks out there (like me): Look for Stan Lee's cameo, and how Tony (Robert Downey, Jr.) addresses him. Also, sit through the credits (yes, all five minutes of them) for a last, tantalizing scene.
Definitely one to own when it comes out on DVD.

For all you comic book geeks out there (like me): Look for Stan Lee's cameo, and how Tony (Robert Downey, Jr.) addresses him.
Definitely one to own when it comes out on DVD.
Most are in agreement that it is one of the top 5, if not top 2 comic book movies ever. It is definitely not a movie to be missed.

Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is classic escapist Saturday afternoon serial action flick.
If you're looking for Citizen Kane, look elsewhere. If you are looking for iconic moments, over the top action, laugh-worthy one-liners and wincing/squirming moments involving insects...
And yeah, you need to suspend your disbelief and enjoy. What else is new? Like that wasn't the case when Indy found the Well of Lost Souls, or used a life raft as a parachute or met Hitler...
Best evidence that the movie hit the triggers it was supposed to hit? All the 10-15 year olds in my fencing class this morning trying to decide which moment was the coolest. Exactly what the movie was intended to do!
So yeah, I loved it. Makes me want to buy a fedora and a whip. *grin*
