I've seen mention in the context of CBT that "if you feel any calf pain, stop immediately".
It's not something I've experienced, but what is it / what causes it.

I imagine it's concern about embolism?

It can also be caused by having you legs held in one spot for too long, like in stirrups or sperad wide and high above you if you are on your back. Circulation suffers and you will have muscle fatigue.

i use the patch for birth control and i am told to be aware of calf pain as well when i have the patch on my ass. i think its about blood clots.

That would be my guess. When I'm really sick, and stuck in bed, I'm warned about pain in my legs, cause I'm at risk for a blood clot.

calf pain is an indicator of DVT or deep vein thrombosis, blood clots. Do NOT massage the calf as that increases the risk that it can dislodge and become an emboli.

Signs of pulmonary embolism are chest pain, shortness of breath, nausea, cool and clammy skin and should not be ignored or brushed off as something else.

And it's no joke, too - it can kill you. Many years ago, a friend of mine was in a car accident. Her legs and pelvis were broken, and she was recovering slowly but surely. Suddenly she died, and it was because of a blood clot in her leg that traveled up to her lungs. (The "pulmonary embolism" we've been speaking of.) So yeah, that kind of thing can kill you - don't play around with calf pain.

When in bondage, do tense and relax your legs often. I've had DVT, which I think had to do with disease factor PLUS birth control which no one red flagged for me (idiots.) I still do everything normally now, but I do try and get up and fidget more often and curl and uncurl my toes and all that. It's good to be a nervous squirmer, they've found. When I was hospitalized they got on my ass often about walking around and doing "calf pumps" (tense, relax ,tense.)
