What is the best way to Do your taxes?
I've never done them before...and I'm kind of excited...
1040EZ, if you can![]()
joint return? I think I file by myself. my SO and I Are not married and he doesn't work...
Can anyone reccomend a good person to have my taxes done? I am quite mathmatically challenged.
I like Turbo Tax, too.1040EZ is your first choice. If you are not allowed to use that for some reason, go get Turbo Tax... I have very complicated taxes but Turbo tax makes it very easy... and when you do next year's taxes, it will remember everything from this years....
And it also makes "electronic filing" a breeze.
I know this sounds like a shameless plug but I love the program.... been using it for years.
Good Luck! And don't forget your state taxes!!

I like the idea of doing the whole tax in a box thing, but you see I have questions, lots of questions such as, Oops didn't file last year, never filed an extension.. and hot damn,I'm in trouble. but I wanna rectify it and file this year. I have all the paper work from last year's but... god Im so nervous! I feel like the gov't is watching me.

H&R Block are pretty reputable, and they're everywhere. But I'm none too savvy about taxes. I've always done my own.
You can't file a joint return if you are not married, which fact has been a regular source of griping among Litizens. However, if your SO had no income, or very little income, you can report him as a dependent, unless you are breaking some law by living together. I don't know what law that might be - there probably is none, because I don't know where you live, or what the laws are there. You should probably list him as a "domestic partner".

any body here about the probable tax rebate from bush? what the hell is that all about. Okay. now really Im off to bed. I'll check back later today. Box, glynndah love ya guys!!!!
Straight out advice. If it's your first year, get a professional. Especially if you might have a lot of questions. In subsequent years you might do your own using this return as a basis on what to do. Most peoples situations don't change that much from year to year.
Don't do any of the quick back money schemes, they just cost you a percent of your hard earned dollars. See a profession you'll be glad you did. It's usually money well spent, at keast the first time.

minx said:I love this loophole in the dependency laws. An 'unrelated member of your household' can be claimed as a dependent if they made less than 3400.00 for the year, and your relationship to them does not violate local law. Call the local IRS to find out about your own area. (or look up city ordinances for cohabitation laws) I know there are quite a few places with laws against cohabitation, but there's not one in my area.
