A distant third place finish in the South Carolina Primary election brought about FOX News and CNN to declare that the Thompson bid for the Presidency is over.

Perhaps.

I went to the website, Fred08 and left an urging not to withdraw and I discovered a rather quiet site. Not the vibrant, busy, aggressive activity one might expect from a campaign with life still left in it.

Neither McCain, who won SC, or Huckabee, who finished second, nor Romney or Guilani can win in November against either Clinton or Obama, god forbid Edwards, by default, has a chance.

I am dismayed at the potential damage a Democrat White House could do to the nations Foreign Policy, International trade policy and Energy future, not even to speak of the disastrous social policies the left advocates as a party platform.

The only saving grace might be that if the American Electorate follows form and respects the concept of checks and balances between the branches of government, that the House or Senate, or both will go back to the Republicans to act as a check on the Executive Branch.

We shall see.

Just my thoughts...

Amicus...

Actually, I think Thompson's finish in SC is his BEST showing.

RF: It is. Odds are he'll bail out in a day or two.

RF: Just FWIW, I disagree with you, Ami. IMHO McCain would have the best bet of winning. The GOP faithful may not think he's conservative enough but they will vote for him (or anyone else) if it means keeping the White House. But as his polling numbers in SC showed, McCain can appeal to others who might otherwise vote Democrat.

RF: This is a great country. After all, it's somehow managed to survive seven years of Bush bungling. Keep the faith, baby.

RF: Couldn't be much worse than when the GOP controlled both houses of Congress and had Dick Cheney running the White House. :)

We shall see.

RF: And it should be fun.

So do I Box, and until I visited the website, was merely going to urge Thompson to intensify his efforts.

The, sadly, perhaps indicates at least a lack of internet campaigning...dunno...hope I am completely wrong.

(Whoops, indexed to wrong quote. This responds to the initial post.)

I agree about the Republican candidates you mention (other than perhaps McCain) having scant chance against most any Democrat who wins through (and not just matching the people themselves--the Bush administration has poisoned the pond for any Republican effort). But you are delusional if you thought/think Thompson has any magic beans the other Republican candidates don't. I'd love for him to be the Republican candidate.

Thanks Rumple....of course...not akin to the left that wanted to move to Canada following the 2000 & 2004 elections. We shall survive the left.

chuckles...

Well, SR71 blackbird....the only thing we have ever agreed on, as I recall, is that that spybird was/is, one hell of an aircraft.

I don't remember having discussed that with you. I think I've seen other things I said I agreed with--in fact I think the very previous posting I made to you was one that said I thought your response was thoughtful.

I try not to be doctrinaire about my views, which I think are pretty eclectic.

But, yes, I usually do think you are delusional, ill-informed, and out of touch--and most certainly about Thompson's chances.

But then I thought anyone would be nuts to vote Bush a second time. (Oops, I think I was right about that one.)

I doubt your gender, Sr71, unless you have a strong feminine intuition working for you that overwhelms your more rational attempts to think.

I am no doubt, a dreamer, a romantic and with a firm comprehension of human nature, I always presume the best.

My views are always consistent and rational and reasonable based on reality and not some ideology as most of the denizens of Lit. project.

I remain...

Amicus Veritas....;)

edited to add....I forgot the clincher in the feminine intuition assertion: In that you seem instinctively to disagree with what ever I posit....ahem....

Thanks for the link...I had not heard that previously.

We shall see, regardless of the gloating of MSNBC and Chris Matthews, a mere shill for the left, who recognized that Thompson was the only viable candidate for the Republicans.

Bird boy is a fraud. No question in my mind.

Thompson? Finished.

I am totally without a candidate now. I suppose I'll fill the garage with food and hibernate during CLINTON REDUX.

What was such a big deal about Thompson? He echoed every mainstream GOP position, though he was very definite about wanting to be President.

He seemed undistinguished.

Now, Ron Paul, he stands out. He's got an actual platform. He can talk and make sense. Sort of.

Let me see. He didn't have any large contributors to his campaign. He didn't/couldn't effectively advertize. He was last in the polls from the very start. Has yet to win a single delegate.

Can't imagine why the American people wouldn't want another worn out actor for president.

Food for thought.

Because he seems inherently more honest than all the rest from both sides put together?

I admit that doesn't take much, after all they are all politicians and if their lips are moving the lies are flowing :(

Look. This is the first time in a long while that the presidency has truely been up for grabs. That's why you get Kasinische, Thompson, Hunter and the rest of the "Also Rans" in the race. Do you really think Fred Thompson had a shot? I don't. He did (and maybe still does) have a shot at the Vice Presidental nomination. That would be more likely.

Amicus hasn't contributed to his thread lately. Do you think he's in mourning?

I agree, by the way, that this is an interesting election year, moreso than most. The Dems basically have a two-way race going, with a third having a long shot at it, and the Reps having a wide-open race. :)

Ami is prolly gay-bashing somewhere to cover the real feelings he keeps under his right-wing covers so as to avoid exposure. :D

It's all gonna deadlock in the conventions and I'm gonna be elected. Then I'm sending all of you to the porn mines, to produce porn all day for cornbread, coffee, and sorghum. No more loitering here! By Golly!
