Oh, that sounds good, though I usually just do diet coke with everything to save myself the calories. I really don't enjoy hard liquor the way I do wine. Hardly ever drink it.

Me: I'm so excited - Mister Man is coming to the NY's party. But I'm slightly worried that someone like X, you know - she always comes up to me and tweaks a nipple - all in fun - but she might do something right in front of Mister Man. I don't want him to feel uncomfortable, or get pissed off.

I am slightly anxious about this happening. I really have no patience for macho posturing, and have told Mister Man so.

Of course, I also love that he says - that's mine - about me, and is so protective and all. And it would be weird for any man to see their woman's ass grabbed by someone else. Gawd, maybe I should start a thread about this. I hate drama - but I guess I might have to diffuse the situation.

Actually, all kidding aside, this will be sort of interesting. Mister Man contends that most folks in that group are not really my friends because, if they were, they would behave better towards me. It's true, some of them are jerks, but I consider a handful to be friends of mine.

However, I am wondering about this guy. Maybe I'm naive. Maybe he just wants to get in my pants, and doesn't want to be my friend. Maybe men and women really can't be "just friends." Earlier in the conversation, I jokingly said that this other male acquaintance who's coming with us is the "beta," and in my head I was thinking of him as the beta sub. This guy retorts, what does that make me?

It was kind of a weird moment. I kind of brushed over it, especially as my kid was nearby and it was just a brief adults-only moment. But it does make me concerned, not only because of Mister Man, but because I want to be friends with this guy and his wife, because they're in the scene and they have a kid about my son's age. But I'm not going to casually fuck someone who's around my kid. I don't mix that shit.

I really hate that I feel so isolated in the scene. Eh, I'll get used to it, and I'll find my comfort zone. Maybe it isn't for me, ultimately. But it's challenging right now.

ITW, regardless of whatever the terms are for your relationship with Mister Man, it seems to me that you should have the right to set limits on who touches you, and how, at the gatherings in your scene.

I believe they will. I hope they will. I chatted briefly with this same friend earlier and he asked if I was worried about how he'd behave. I said, no, should I be worried? And he said, no, that he would behave. I don't know. He likes to tease me, and I am sensitive.

The only other person I think might be a problem is known for drinking too much at parties. If I have to say, hey, not now, okay, it would be hard for me, but I wouldn't catch any flak for it.

The thing is, Mister Man has heard my complaints about some of these guys since the beginning, when the two of us were just friends with benefits, and I would bitch about this guy or the other, and what a jerk he was, yada yada. So of course he's protective of me, and doesn't have a full picture of some of these guys, even though I've tried to tell him, that's just one episode. I think the party will be a good thing actually, because he'll meet real people, not just a character in one of my rants.
