So just for kicks, I went to the Amazon website, looked at the top 100 erotic books, and my mind was ... shocked. With a bit of legwork, I discovered one author has published at least 47 books on Amazon (THIS YEAR) that are 300+ pages ... yeah, okay, that's real. The question is, did she use A.I.? The name listed is female, but is she a she? do you care?

That'd be at least 75,000 words, counting the industry average of 250 words per page. Not undoable. But that means it's a full-time job with little time for plotting and other such luxuries.

It's possible she had a backlog she published all at once. Or she used AI. She wouldn't be the first, and probably not the last.

Wait, that's 75,000 words per book, totaling three million five hundred thousand words at the minimum, and definitely using AI or a team of coauthors.

Yeah, who's to say they weren't written before this year.

Yeah, that's heavy usage of AI, and it's only going to get worse. Meanwhile, legit authors are having problems reaching their audience because "authors" like the one the O.P. mentioned are saturating the market with crap.

There are a couple of authors I used to read that were actually a consortium of authors working together. The “author” would publish a new book every week, each one about 75,000 words, they would rotate through 4 different series at a time. Turns out each author was churning a little over 1 book a month.
