Jumping into the fire ... Should the entire Non-Con category be eliminated?

Unless it is mainstream fiction, and no line exists at all, so long as it isn't erotica. It can be written erotically, but not called erotica.
But that's the point - even in the US itself, there is no line in the sand that is safe everywhere except "18 or over" so, that's what they do and I don't entirely blame them for it.

To misquote the esteemed Dr. Frankenfurter, "A line had to be drawn, and they drew one!"

If I were queen of the world, it would be 16, but I'm not so I'll deal with it as it is. If it WERE 16, then we'd have people complaining that they lost their virginity at 15 and the age of consent in New Mexico is 14 so what's the big deal...
Actually, Hawaii was the last state to raise the age of consent from 14 to 16, doing so in 2001. Before that was Georgia in 1995. Then there are Romeo and Juliet laws that lower that age in limited circumstances.

Also, at least in the US, the law is pretty clear that portrayal of underage sex in media is legal, as long as the actors seen performing the acts are actually of legal age. This is true for both fiction and non-fiction.

Yep, exactly. In Stephen King's "The Stand" a preteen girl is repeatedly raped and barbed wire used in a way that I won't even post on here and yet it's ok and he's one of the biggest authors in the world because it isn't "Erotica"

It's a lot of fun to point out to those folks that the most common age of consent in the US is 16.

I've been accused of a lot, simply for knowing that age of consent and age of majority are two different things.

And several states have Romeo and Juliet laws where a person over 18 having sex with a minor above the age of consent is OK as long as the age gap is relatively narrow. Usually 3 years or so.
An 18 year old HS Senior dating a 16 year old sophomore shouldn't end up on the sex offender registry for a consensual relationship.

Maybe this should be in the controversial opinion thread, but that guy is a fucking perv.

Yeah, another story "Eyes of the Dragon" has a king bedding his queen who I think is 14 or something. If that wasn't bad enough, I read that he wrote the fucking story for his preteen daughter

I've tried to write my stories as stories, and not strokers with just gratuitous sex. I try to make the sex scenes relevant to making a point in the character building.

For example, in my last story "A Band of Sisters and Brothers", the initial sex scene is used to show her taking control of him. It demonstrates her assertive character in their relationship. EDIT: Shortly after that initial BJ, he relates "We had sex, with condoms." and I leave it at just that, because there was no point to be made other than they had safe sex.

Except, those laws only apply to actual sexual acts.

It's perfectly legal to write about underage sex. It's perfectly legal to have adult actors portray underage characters that have sex. It doesn't matter if it's fiction or documentary, it's all perfectly legal.

He's also the worst offender of his own rules, ever!

I saw an article awhile back, I wish I could find it again, that basically listed a dozen or so gratuitous and unnecessary skeevy things in his books. Young girls getting sexually assaulted and it DIDN'T advance the plot and so forth. Even as prolific as he is, it's too frequent to just be, "Well that WAS going to be a plot point but things changed in editing..."

Damn it, are you going to make me read a LW story? Not cool, not cool at all!

Well, King is a total panster, so he has no written-down plot more than a general idea when he starts writing. Hence, so many dropped characters, abandoned subplots, and characters who serve no purpose at all.

Ah, the old added a line to explain something not specifically covered writing device.

Well, when your stream of consciousness keeps flowing down that particular channel... that should tell you something.

Ok, I'll mention this once because it seems you think those buzzwords mean something here.

I suppose we agree that "diversity" and "inclusion" are meaningless buzzwords. ;)

Now, would you kindly GO BACK TO POLITICS BOARD?!

My responses are all germane to the topic. If you don't like it then skip past my posts and read something else.

And if the people who don't like NC, LW, or I/T stories would likewise stop reading those stories then we wouldn't need to discuss this at all.

That's just what Tumblr says to keep face. The reality is different: Apple was the one behind the NSFW ban on Tumblr. They removed Tumblr from their app store because Tumblr didn't comply with Apple's guidelines. If you want to point fingers at someone, look into the bitten apple instead of the buzzwords.

Now, would you kindly GO BACK TO POLITICS BOARD?!
If they didn't mean something here, you wouldn't be upset about him using them.

I know how this ends! It's worse than getting stuck in a dryer!
It depends on what you're looking for in a story, what kinds of relationships. Most of the women in my stories are in the powerful positions. Try:
The Maneater
"A Barbie-wife/anti-heroine learned to control men."

I thought better of it by adding that so you wouldn't think it's "bait & switch". She starts with a BJ to ensure he knows who is in charge:
"Don't touch my head!" she warned "This is my show, baby. We do it my way, or I bite!"

"Okay," I readily agreed, pulling my hand away, and feeling the excitement abate with this distraction.

I have had prostitutes put the rubber on using their lips and tongue. Don't ask how I know how to do that; you know my history well enough to understand.

Sexual non consent is rape....
It glorifies the sexual abuse of another human being regardless of their gender.
Taking another human being sexually against their wishes is rape... Non consensual sex is rape....
You can paint pretty flowers on it, but it doesn't change it... Rape... Is Rape...
Any attempts to portray it as anything else, is in my opinion... Bullshit...

So, should Non Con be banned???
In my opinion... Absolutely.

You are forgetting that a large part of the 'noncon' set it reluctance. Having to be to be forced to perform in a certain way is a large part of BDSM, if you get past the masochistic, 'beat me, fuck me, make me feel good' idea. Humiliation in many stories is non-consensual in many ways. Look at the 'forced' feminizaton stories in transgender.
I consider noncon a catch-all type category and write there often.

@Cafivalgurl, again, censer ship, no, no, no!
