WASHINGTON, Oct 21 (Reuters) - Americans blame Republican lawmakers more than Democratic lawmakers for a partial government shutdown, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll that also showed Republican President Donald Trump's approval rating increasing slightly.
The six-day poll, which closed on Monday, showed Trump's approval at 42%, up 2 percentage points from earlier in the month, within the poll's 2 point margin of error. Trump's rating has held between 40% and 44% since early April.

Trump's approval rating is the poll I always look at. I was hoping that the video of him dropping excrement on Americans would lower his approval rating, but the people who love Trump love that kind of behavior from him.

I doubt Trump’s approval rating in his final term and a year before the midterms has much relevance to anything at this point in time, but this comparison to his rating at this stage of his presidency compared to his rating at the same point in his first term is interesting.
He was under water by around 15 to 17 points at this stage of his first term. Now he’s under water around 7 to 8 points. Significant difference.
