I put out my own first novel a week ago. I also got the first couple of chapters approved up front, and the rest appearing as Published and New a couple of days before they appeared.

Chris Baty, original NaNoWriMo creator, has also created his own group with different people. There are no current plans of reviving the organization, which is fine by me. That should've been federated. The Inktober fiasco was a warning.

My 104k Arthurian novel had thirteen chapters, submitted sequentially. Laurel set them all to release 48 hours apart, which meant I had something in the Category front page for over a month. After a year the last chapter had a thousand views, after five years, 3400. Happy with that. Slow take up, but genuine readers, over time.

Is writing for money something you want? That aspiration isn't a "delusion," for anyone who has the ability to output a novel and the motivation to put the time in. It's not easy, certainly, nor a given for whoever goes for it. It's also, I think, not much money, unless you're one of the lucky few to strike the gold of trending. But if it's something that appeals to you, why not give it a shot?

I get it if this novel is a better fit for Literotica than the marketplace, or you don't want to be bothered with query letters to agents or the work of self publishing or whatever other factor might keep you from it. But "delusions" made me wonder if you're just deciding it's too lofty a goal before you try.

Anyway. Congrats on the novel! That's a huge accomplishment, money or no money.

I’m well aware of the quality out in the marketplace, which ranges from exceptional to workaday. I don’t need the [as you say most likely paltry] money, unlike too many other people, we are pretty secure financially. And I don’t need the stress of commercial publishing. This is strictly a hobby. One I take seriously, but still a hobby.

This is a huge factor: the tiny returns on all the effort to get published. That's time and energy most of us here would rather put into actually writing.
