This (above), as well as a few other things, is what has been taking up a lot of our time. Pentax K3 111 Monochrome.

For years, well, ever since we started our little hobby of photography, I've been acquiring cameras which have steadily improved year on year, to the latest few I've bought. Throughout, I've become familiar enough with each one to understand its basic operation.......taking the photos was more important and more urgent. However, I would now like to increase my understanding of each camera I still use....probably five or so....to get the best out of them. It ain't easyπŸ₯΅. Each one is like a different model computer with a different operating system. The same principles of photography apply to all, but their interpretation of what I see and want through the viewfinder, varies somewhat!

The monochrome above is a case in point. A black and white camera only, how hard can it be? Well,it has to be the high water mark of learning something new!😣 Everything is different! Even the graphics are all grey and muted...there's not a bit of colour to be found anywhere. The thing is, Pentax must assume anyone who buys this type of camera knows all about it and how to use it i.e. a professional photographer etc, well, they didn't have me in mind when they built itπŸ™„. Nothing is intuitive. It has a modest manual for settings and all the usual stuff, however, it just assumes you know where everything is and what it does.

Anyhow, it will all come together, it will just take a little time.

Below are a few shots of other gear I use and will be hoping to become more familiar with.

Have included a few first attempts, nothing spectacular, but will hopefully give a taste of what might be....soon with any luck.☺️

Gorgeous collection of pictures.
I've always loved Vanessa's beautiful garden but these B&W shots are extra special.
(From the gardener formerly known as KentLondon).

Hi Richard,
Wow - that is some camera collection!!
Great shots whilst you are getting the hang of the new camera. Was wondering if some of the distance shots were β€œhand held” or using a tripod?
Looking forward to you trying out the telephoto. Your model is always sensational from all angles and distances!! πŸ˜πŸ˜‰
Vasco

Hi Vasco ... thanks very much! :)
(All the shots were handheld.)

Ah, lovely to see you back R and V.
R, try YouTube, there is usually some tech wizard more than happy to share their knowledge on a particular gadget, some in great detail. And as far as im concerned, you are getting the best out of your cameras already with such a stunning model.
V, gorgeous as always, I hope your butt didn't hurt too much after fencesitting

haha ... it's funny you say that EA because when I saw that photo I thought "I don't remember sitting on the fence" ... I was actually sitting on a table in front of the fence .... but I still got some indentations from it. :D

Love monochrome. Makes things look timeless. Beautiful shots. Where were they taken? The garden? Driving past & seeing V nude at the gate; I’d definitely pull over xx

😊 ... well we'd certainly offer you a cuppa if you did, Alex .. they were taken in our garden.

Great collection and you’ve highlighted what a lot of β€œenthusiast” photographers go through with the learning curves - especially with digital advances. Like the Fuji in your collection, I’ve been using them for a while and like the old retro film look. It’s because of their jpeg quality that I’ve almost stopped processing anything, just try to get it right in the cameraπŸ™‚. Good luck with the new equipment, you have a high level of skill so it won’t be long before you're a masterπŸ‘πŸ» By the way the best β€œequipment” in you photo collection is of course your gorgeous wife. All the kit would be useless without VπŸ™‚. Steve

Now that's a lovely compliment for me, Steve ... many thanks. 😊

Wonderful pictures Richard, the new Camera plus your talent behind the lens, shows much promise. Of course your gorgeous model has a lot to do with the appeal of your pictures, and she shines out, even if in monochrome, as beautiful and desirable as ever.
That’s quite the collection you have there Richard, and a fair challenge you’ve set yourself, but you have summer round the corner and the most beautiful of models to practice with so enjoy. Hopefully you’ll continue to share your results with us, your fans. I await with much excitement.

That's nice to hear Binns .. and I appreciate your kind words. :)

I have every confidence in Richard’s ability to master the new gear. Your property/garden is quite impressive and well-kept… the inclusion of the lovely and shapely Vanessa is the crowning touch!

Thanks very much Neatnik .. that garden is our pride and joy so that's music to my ears.

Richard, I have full confidence you will be able to find your way to producing wonderful images of Vanessa with your new Pentax. One thing I know about cameras you will never fully master all the functions they have to offer but you will master what is necessary to create exquisite images.

Does everyone in Oz have big beautiful porches? Your preliminary photos on the porch reminds me of another couple from Oz who used to post here as well (before the great purge). In fact their photos inspired me to post B&W images long ago.

As always keep up the amazing work or should I say fun. Vanessa you are still very much a dream, a muse and a wonderful person! :rose::heart::rose:

Hi puno .. that's so true of many digital devices, the trick being to find what to focus on.
Well that porch does look a little bigger than it is in that photo, must have been a wide angle lens, but our place is out in the sticks so we do have a lot of room.
And many thanks for that delightful comment to me. πŸ™

Simply divine.

Many thanks DBD.

It occurs to me that some of those lens must have zoom capability. Some of Vanessa’s poses (actually all of them) make me want to more closely admire that fabulous sexy vixen.

Hehe .. that's nice to know Neatnik ... he was trying for the "Where's Wally" effect that day. πŸ˜„

Love the "nothing spectacular..." then proceeds to share photos of Vanessa.
🀷
Yeah right!!

Hahaha

Looking forward to the journey.

Haha .. I like that reply P!

Hello EA, yes have been trawling through YT .....quite a few reviews but not much on the actual set up, functions etc; one guy was as baffled by the ISO as I was, so he wasn't much help. Am just going to set it up as best I can with the knowledge I have and if the pics look good, then that'll do. I, as many photographers would, probably use only twenty to fifty percent of what these cameras will do and that's more than enough for the stuff I do. Many [photographers] are right into every nook and cranny of the craft and absolute masters of the art...they live and breath it; I have great regard for their ability, but me, I'm just happy to have a basic understanding and snap a few pics.

Hello Leo, thanks for the encouragement. The Fuji is a terrific camera...particularly all the different types of film settings. It's highly usable and manually adjustable but can also just be used like a point and shoot; great shots every time, as I'm sure you're aware.

Wonderful pictures Richard, the new Camera plus your talent behind the lens, shows much promise. Of course your gorgeous model has a lot to do with the appeal of your pictures, and she shines out, even if in monochrome, as beautiful and desirable as ever.

Thanks Puno, yes, as I mentioned above, I would only access a small portion of what these cameras are capable of.....I leave the rest to the enthusiasts.

Yes, porches or verandahs as we say here, are very common in Oz; our summers are hot and a verandah is a must to help cool the house and just sit on in the evening or during the day. They are mandatory in the bush. I think the further north one goes, the larger the verandahs become.

Hi QSco....fascinated is not a word I would have used a couple of days ago ;)

Please let me know if you understand when the ISO is in auto. I'm guessing it's in auto by default and the user has the ability to change it manually without 'cancelling' an auto button etc. to achieve a particular effect. It captures monochrome like nothing else (except Leica perhaps). Fabulous bit of gear...the Pentax.
Gorgeous collection of pictures.

Hi Richard
Like you, I have endured some technical issues here on Lit.
When I tried to change my password and profile I was locked out for several months!
During that time I was admiring your brilliant work but unable to engage.
Keep it up (and the great pictures!)

Great work, Richard. And Vanessa, you continue to be an exquisite example of perfection.

Hi Vasco, thank you. πŸ‘ It was all hand held. Am looking at other lenses for it, the few Pentax lenses I have are old.

Hi Alex, they were taken in the garden at the getaway...

Hello Leo, thanks for the encouragement. The Fuji is a terrific camera...particularly all the different types of film settings. It's highly usable and manually adjustable but can also just be used like a point and shoot; great shots every time, as I'm sure you're aware.

Thanks Binns, yes, the model is the reason for it all. A bit of a challenge but it's about time I learnt a bit more about the gear I have. Will certainly share as much as we can.

Many thanks NN.

Thank you for the encouragement Aon πŸ‘

Thanks Heath.

Fabulous bit of gear...the Pentax.

.....the new name caught my eye a little while back; now I know. Many thanks.

Thank you everyone. I just tried to pick up on a few specifics. If I've forgotten anyone, apologies.

Impressive lineup of hardware and only one piece of extraordinary software with mesmerising curves to put into the hardware - and not more needed. The first monochrome shots with the new camera gives a good idea of the scope and range of the equipment and we can only look forward to even more seductive and tantalising pictures from your hand. Keep up the good work!,πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Richard, I have always admired your work in the many marvelous postings you have made with any camera you have used, and want you to know you are probably more critical of your work than any of us that is why you produce such great photos. I will say working with the distraction of the beautiful Vanessa proves it is the photographer more than the camera. Best to you both.

I've heard of people saying they have fairies at the bottom of their garden, Richard, but you have an absolute angel in yours!

Fabulous bit of gear, indeed! As far as I can tell (in most modes), the ISO button on the top will change it from a set ISO to a dial-selected ISO, and at some point you can press the back function button to force it back into auto. I find myself using a much larger range of ISO than I have on any other camera, so could be that they figured you could do with a little more encouragement to stay in auto!

Beautiful photos of an exceptional nymph wandering through an enchanted forest. I hope the next photos (perhaps taken with a 200/400 telephoto lens) would highlight the Nymph in all her beauty. It would be very interesting to also have the coverage of that photo from 2008, which seems very promising to me, especially for the exceptional nipples highlighted under that splendid white T-shirt. It goes without saying, dear Vanessa, that despite the years, you are still beautiful, desirable, and always sexy, and not even striped socks are enough to dampen your sexy appeal. I can't imagine what would have happened if you had worn black sheer stockings and 12-cm heels with your beautiful pink cardigan. They would have been truly epochal photos, beyond compare. A remarkable photo (among the latest) is the one where you're portrayed on the French window, showing the world the most beautiful and fascinating woman (I'd like to see the A side as well as the B side) to admire your breasts, your splendid pussy, but above all to see your "sly" eyes and your splendid smile. Hello incredible woman, you are fantastic always and everywhere. xxx~~~ (o)~~~(|)~~~ Amiche

Vanessa here .. I've logged onto Richard's account to load up a pic myself.

We've been watching a lot of Youtube videos on monochrome photography which inspired me to try to learn a bit about proper cameras. I took a photo that is relevant to the discussion here on the new Pentax, so thought I'd load it up.

Studying the new camera .....
