To be fair, I think I get what they were saying. It is true that many 19th century Western ideals have run their course. It's wrong to say we're past the peak of progress; rather, we now have new, more humanistic definitions of progress.

Alas for insecure people like Rightguide, this includes changing social norms so that authoritarian and violent men are no longer at the pinnacle of the power pyramid. Thankfully, the tide is already starting to turn, where multiple rightwing parties are starting to lose the power they gained. Which shouldn't be a surprise—their political agenda leads to increased misery for most people, and eventually people will remember that nationalist/populist propaganda never matches reality.

Moreover, with some exceptions, left-of-center policies remain far and away more popular, including here in the US. It's true that the far right has successfully leveraged economic insecurity (caused by right wing neoliberal policies) into generating fear and hatred of immigrants, which is precisely why nationalists have won more elections lately. But even in these nations, support of left-wing, humanistic policies remains high—which is why, even where right wing parties have gained seats, they haven't been able to turn that into actual power (the US is an exception, unfortunately).

And so, the countries themselves are continuing to trend left. Yes, there is the last gasp of the rightwingers, and I don't deny that they are doing a lot of damage, but it will not last much longer.

The Quiet War on Manhood​

Since the mid-20th century, Western culture has undergone an ideological shift that redefined traditional masculinity as something outdated, even dangerous. The cultural shifts of the 1960s promised liberation but gradually replaced personal responsibility and family order with self-gratification and state dependence. Where strong families once formed the backbone of the West, an alliance of ideological radicalism and excessive consumerism has turned both men and women into disconnected individuals -- easier to manipulate, easier to control.

This erosion of masculine identity didn’t happen by accident. Once that was achieved then it became fashionable to push the notion that women were the equal of men in ALL respects. I would agree with two points in the original post--that Western civilization is worth preserving, and that masculinity, properly understood, is important to a well-functioning society. Always take it too far. Go to any American school and the top students are girls. Women are winning in the competition for intelligent minds. Boys are too busy playing video games and pulling their puds to PornHub to do any studying. So women are taking over the higher paying jobs. I see it daily. Young women engineers with loser out of work boyfriends.

I don't find fault with physical standards for jobs like firefighters. But those fights are in the past. Today's boys and men are just hurting themselves with too many distractions. No goal-setting. So women bypass them on the career ladder in jobs that require intelligence.
