I truly do not understand why people bet against friends on sports.
One person will inevitably be unhappy in the end because their team lost.
That person will also have to fork over some money or some other favor to the winner, doubling the pain.
Neither person actually contributed to either team winning or losing.

There is no point.

You want the Jays. Congratz. In any other year/vs any other team Id be rooting for them as well.
They are playing my team.
So I am pulling for my hometown team.

Whats the issue with betting?

Fair point of view

my friends always kept it friendly. Dinner at a resto of choice. Tickets to a show (reasonable prices)
 
Also, asshole winners and sore losers come out of the woodwork.
I undoubtedly will make a post if the Dodgers win.
I also will sigh sadly if they lose but congratulate the Jays.

But I dont like to rub salt in anyone's wounds nor be a butthurt thin-skinned wuss if they lose.
I know there is another user who may or may not lurk in my thread who actually quit talking to me and left my thread because I made a post back in June or something about the Padres.
There are actually a few Padre fans on here. One or two are very cool. This other individual took it personally and quit. Ive seen him on the baseball thread and one or two other threads.
Got all butthurt.
I lost all respect for him.
I dont carry myself like that.
Shake the hand of the winner, but dont be a sore loser. And the winner should shake the hand of the loser. Hopefully it was a good battle.
Get 'em next year.

Exactly. Ribbing or taking the loss is all part of it.

Besides it’s not like we’re the ones playing. Why take it personal

Well said! Most of my best friends do not like my teams but it brings us closer to make bets and pay up, shaking hands and remembering that it is all fun and games in the end. It is one thing to be salty; it is another to be a jerk.

theres a point when a friendly joke or comment can go too far.
Ive encountered enough sore losers and asshat winners too many times to know its not a part of the pool I want to play in.

Unless yer for Inter fucking Milan.

I totally get where you are coming from,

I never bet money, i will bet s drink or a bottle, but as you talked about asshat losers, i wont bet a friend who one is a dumb ass loser, I am all about character when choosing friends.

For me it is mutual comradery over a sport with just enjoy, either way in the end we are both drinking and laughing.

Good luck to the team i cannot say. I kind of hope they beat the bastard jays.
