Paramount Acquires ‘The Free Press’ for $150 Million, Officially Names Bari Weiss Editor-in-Chief of CBS News

By Jason Cohen, Daily Caller News Foundation • Oct. 6, 2025

(DCNF)—The Free Press co-founder Bari Weiss will supervise a debate show modeled after her outlet’s streams tackling hot-button issues, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.

Paramount announced on Monday that it had acquired The Free Press and that Weiss would be CBS News’ editor-in-chief. Weiss and Paramount CEO David Ellison told the WSJ that they were in agreement on prioritizing “news that reflects reality” and journalism that “doesn’t seek to demonize, but seeks to understand.”

This is big.

Overall, this is a good move.tp.CBS/Paramount. I think Weiss is overly self righteous.....I used to listen to her pod, but skipped a lot of the recent stuff... probably more to do with her guests who I haven't cared for

What I definitely didn't like is that she's staying on as CEO of the Free Press. That's not a good thing.....

I know you are posting this, as you always do, to get a rise out of real American patriots for this DEI hire, but honestly, this is sad news for what is left of whatever anyone cares to call the news division of the Columbia Broadcasting System, CBS.
Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite are weeping.

This is a big story. Can CBS News be saved?
We're going to find out. She's going to lose the left wing screaming droolers and she's not going to attract the conservatives that have been so thoroughly alienated by the CBS's, MSCCP's, etc. which leaves her with the independents, old school liberals, and other moderates. Too little too late?

Eddie I can understand, but Uncle Walter? Eh…even the left has turned.

Now good Ol’ Danny Rather…remember him? He who tried to put his thumb on the scales of the ‘04 election to favor Radicalized democrats? With his October (really September) Surprise of the forged USAFNG papers?

He was a loyal democrat in good standing till that scandal blew up in his face. Five other “journalists” from the equally disreputable 60mins crowd and himself all got their asses canned. Don’t know about the rest but Young Danny spent the rest of his miserable career in Cable TeeVee hell doing interviews of over the hill rock stars…

Mans gotta eat…

David Ellison and his father bring heavyweight business credentials. That’s a big plus. The Ellison family is building quite a media empire which includes Paramount Global (includes CBS, various cable networks, Paramount pictures), a stake in TikTok (that includes involvement in data oversight), and potentially Warner Brothers Discovery (includes CNN, HBO, Warner Studios).

The good thing is there will be no more leftist indoctrination on CBS News.

Or just in the nick of time?

Maybe it's because it's of personal interest, but I really hope there's a louder voice for "the middle."

The Free Press is middle or right wing?
Do a google search nitwit.

“The Free Press, founded by Bari Weiss, is widely described as leaning right, though it presents itself as an independent, non-partisan alternative to mainstream media
. Multiple analyses and commentators have noted a consistent right-leaning bias in its coverage.“

I'd say it's conservative moderate.

The problem with branding is that once you lose your audience it's damn difficult to get them back. If their in it for the long term they have a shot. I don't agree with Bari on everything but I do believe she's an honest broker.

Jack Shaffer can have whatever opinion he wants on Cronkite. The rest of America recognized him as trustworthy. I’m glad my post allowed you to pivot to Dan Rather who I did not mention at all.

I don't care. I never watched CBS news back in the day before the mainstream media became the Public Relations firm for the Democrat agenda.

Have at it, CBS - don't fucking care.

The Furious Freakout Over a New Centrist Strategy at CBS News

The aerobic freakout has begun inside the liberal media over the new owners of CBS News appointing "anti-woke" Bari Weiss to the new post of editor-in-chief. None of the CBS veterans want a new boss with a new ideology. They like pretending they don't have an ideology. They call themselves courageously "independent."

Paramount Chief Executive David Ellison wants to put CBS News firmly in the middle: "We want CBS to speak to that 70% of the audience that would really define themselves as center-left to center-right."

In her initial memo to employees, Weiss stated several principles that are absolute anathema inside CBS: "Journalism that holds both American political parties to equal scrutiny," and "Journalism that embraces a wide spectrum of views and voices so that the audience can contend with the best arguments on all sides of a debate."

The anonymous leakers are already on fire. Jeremy Barr of The Guardian spread the early spurts: "CBS News veterans I've talked to are encouraging Bari Weiss to not mess with the Golden Goose(s) of '60 Minutes' and 'CBS News Sunday Morning.'"

That "Golden Goose" is exactly what she'll go after.
