I'm not sure what the exact noun nomenclature was for the 30.06. With iron sights to adjust or zero that weapon wouldn't he need a scope, or time at a range with paper targets. With my bolt action I installed a redfield 3X9 variable and set it for 200 yards.

It could have been a head shot not compensating for bullet drop.

Not sure what the argument is here but it’s been my military experience, having been an expert marksman using both the M-14 and the M-16 let there be no doubt that an M-16 is deadly accurate at 200 yards. Wouldn’t try taking out a bear or a moose but the AR-15 will easily kill a human at 200 yards. IMHO

M-16 pop ups farthest were 300 meters. I agree. I remember in basic I scored perfect scores with both M-16 and M-14 for my record qual. I forget my night fire and NBC scores.

I put 3 rounds inside a dime at 25 meters. close enough.

The M-14 was still used as a sniper rifle. Later on at Ft.Lee, my AIT station our assigned weapon was the M-16-A1 or an M1911. I was never sent to Nam. We were pulling out troops big time. In 71 I was never drafted, my draft# was very high, I joined because my friend was drafted so we joined together and were lucky enough to stay together for 3 years, did my time and transferred into the NG and served as dual status full time technician.

I have the utmost respect for those who served in Vietnam. Most older friends I knew who came back from Nam strongly suggested to stay the hell out.
