Authorities found ammunition from a rifle used in the Utah Valley University (UVU) assassination with messaging described as pro-transgender and anti-fascist, The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, citing anonymous sources. However, CNN reported that “Sources say a range of phrases related to cultural issues were found scrawled on a rifle and ammunition, but it’s not yet clear if they point to a motive.”
CNN did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

Authorities are still searching for the perpetrator after two subjects were arrested and released. Police initially arrested George Zinn and then Zachariah Qureshi after Kirk was shot in the neck during a TPUSA event, but both had “no current ties” to the murder, the FBI and Utah Department of Public Safety (DPS) said in a joint statement Wednesday night.

Mews networks are not licensed by the FCC. TV stations are licensed by the FCC. National news like CNN or Fox News are not under the FCC authority. Only local TV stations that are licensed by the FCC can have licenses pulled. This can be done primarily for non-compliance of the technical aspects of the license. If a station broadcasts at a power other than what they are licensed for, or something like that.

For national broadcasts that violate decency rules, the individual stations are the ones that are fined, not the national network (like CBS was not fined for the Janet Jackson Superbowl). Well actually they were fined, but the only the stations that were owned and operated by CBS were fined. Not CBS as an entity itself. Repeated and blatant violations could be cause to revoke a stations license, but not a network.

Even if something they report on is false or misleading, the FCC has no authority over these networks. They generally have no editorial control of local news stations as well. So if a local news station were to report on something that may or may not be false, generally the FCC has no recourse to investigate that or punish that station.
