We saw the initial picture of a plane crash into the WTC on the CNN website, then the Internet went down. Kids today have no idea what that is like. I grabbed a radio from my truck and tried to find a news station. When it became apparent that this was a deliberate attack I yelled "fucking Muslims" which resulted in a coworker scolding me for a rush to judgement. I never brought up how I was eventually right because I had rushed to judgment.

I left work early stopped at a Walmart and got a small American flag to tape to my antenna. Another guy saw me beeped his horn and gave me the thumbs up. Little did I realize soon everyone would be doing that. We seemed so united.

When Bush spoke through a bullhorn I said "Fuck yeah!" I became a hard-core neo-con that day. And it mostly stayed that way until the stupid fucking MAGAtards took over.

So don't call me a liberal because I hate MAGAtards. And don't call me a conservative because I supported Bush.

I was, am, and will always be an American.

I was in the clinical practice stage of a college course to advance my career in forensic psych, and everyone and everything stopped in the building - all classes - all speaking - all breathing (or so it seemed). It was like the quietest church, and everybody was gathered in front of various TV monitors.

Being in a branch of Law enforcement AND healthcare, I immediately became concerned for the first responders (after the directly impacted victims of course), as I saw many of them working their asses off in a cloud of who knows what without masks of any kind, trying to do anything they could to help. My concern turned out to be quite prescient…

Then I saw Shrub Bush and Rudy standing on a pile of rubble or something talking to the people through a bullhorn and rallying the country…but even in that moment, I felt like something was off - like we were being led into a bad war… I could say that was prescient as well, but going to war against Saddan wasn’t the primary failing of Shrub’s administration- it was the prosecution of the war and “the day after” planning that contributed to the farce / failure that Shrub hailed as "Mission Accomplished".

I have very mixed feelings about that time and the aftermath that we are STILL living through.

It is what it is…

I was driving to the gym when I heard the news of a plane hitting the WTC. I assumed it was a little plane like a Piper Cub.

When I got home after swimming laps, I turned on the TV just in time to see the towers fall.

When the first tower collapsed, the entire college building I was in let out a collective gasp / moan / wail that I will never forget. When it became apparent that it was a terrorist attack, that is when the anger / rage started to manifest among the large group gathered. I literally had to make a conscious effort to control my anger and remain objective about what was going on - both viscerally AND politically / geopolitically.

That ability to remain objective, even in the face of great trauma & tragedy has served me well throughout the years.

I admit I was more of a reactionary hothead back then.

Bush watched the first plane flying into the building before he went into do his story time.

How? God knows. Ask him.

He said to himself "That pilot is having a bad day"

Did anyone else see the FIRST PLANE. That morning? Fuck no!

Later he made a joke of looking for weapons of mass destruction at a Republican fund raiser.
So funny! Sort of an "inside" joke? Like? Fuck no, there were NEVER any weapons of mass destruction.
Certainly not trucks making chemical bombs like they conned a good man into lying about.

I was attending a certification class at the World Trade Center....the one in Dallas, Texas.

I was a bit confused at first hearing a plane had struck the WTC, it looked fine outside my hotel room window.

Most surreal moment was after the nationwide "ground stop" was lifted three days later, for the first 24 hours airlines ferried crews to different locations to prep for restarting flight operations.

I somehow managed to grab one of two open passenger seats on the first Delta flight out of Dallas going to Atlanta. Me, one other guy, and 150 Delta captains, first officers and flight attendants in uniform were on the plane.
