I literally know nothing about cameras. I wouldn't know what an f-stop was if it bit me. Maybe I can learn a bit now? I did learn about the zoom capability on my phone from YT. And yes, it is a black hole!

I grew up w old school cameras where you had to adjust the shutter speed and f stop (an aperture that allows more/less light to hit the film.

It was certainly part Art and part science with a tiny ammount of guesswork thrown in too.

You really had three variables to mess with: film speed, shutter speed and aperture (f atop) when taking the picture.

And a few more developing the film.

And then in the darkroom making the prints. Those were the days!

Mrs wonderer dated a semi famous rock photographer in the 70s and 80s and she learned a lot from him.

Okay, up. Slept poorly, but it's a shorter day. I'ma shoo off the work vermin and try to hit the road as early as possible.


As was mentioned earlier, the landlady got back in the middle of the night with her grumbly truck and the new/old anvil engines. She'll tell me a story when she gets up later.

Busy day today.

Work stuff of course - fridays are typically a quiet day w less meeting and more project work. But not on a short week. And crazy ass business opportunities are coming across my desk left right and center.

We never get simple of straight forward stuff

My team and I and triage some of the really wacky deals for other biz development people for nonstandard deals. If the client or broker is looking for something very customized or needs the help of another biz unit, it comes across our desks and we try to make it happen.

(It ranges from NFW - no fuckin way — all the way to this could take a lot of work and you have to assess if the juice is worth the squeeze..) Some
Of the deals we get literally take years to close… others are just connecting the right people.

And on top of that I have a guy coming over at the farm in the morning to put some rip rap down on the culvert across the stream. Good timing too - no rain for a month and it poured last nite. If that culvert were ever to wash out, we’d be fucked.

Then we have a guy from a non profit coming over for tree placement. We qualified for a grant to repair the riparian buffer (the land next to the stream) with new trees, so he will put the markers down where the trees are to go. Planting day is OCT 17th so between then and now I gotta drill ~200 holes with my post hole driller for the saplings to go into.

So busy day in the office and at the farm. Ere hosting a get together w two guys I deployed w in the bat guard tomrrow so plenty to do!!

I thought I’d put up fencing everywhere but the soil is not great for growing pumpkins. It does come in handy like when I had to put in a gate and for this.

That’s been the fun part of jumping back in this hobby…obsession? Learning all the little formulas of the manual side of the camera. I’ve shot in AP (Aperture Priority) for so long I’d forgotten all the little rules of thumb. This has sort of forced me to go back to school on this. It’s been fun!

Hospital day for me. Momma’s getting her disk fused today for that broken bone. Hopefully this takes away her pain

Today’s MZ was an attempted “artistic” geometric shot. Taken at Gibbs Hill Lighthouse on Bermuda of the Fresnel Lens. This has potential as a B&W but it might have too much white noise in it? I’ll play around with it.

You’re a good son for being there for her and with her!

As for that photograph, it’s a strong photo and I think black-and-white might be just the thing. Maybe pump up some manual contrast to make the dark shadows pop a little more. Cool geometric design.

Yes, they are awesome to have around. Inherited my grandfathers, I think because it was so beat up and pissed out no one else wanted it.

Grandpa welded up hard facing rod on the auger because it was so worn down, that was probably 30-40 years ago now. We used it to put up the garden fence this summer, and I discovered it needs a shaft seal. So it sits in the garage until that gets done sometime this winter.

The previous use was to help a buddy drill a post hole into the power lines feeding his house. He marked 'em, I drilled 'em.
