5 entire grocery stores are leaving the city of Milwaukee at once, along with 2 walgreens locations. Local officials and residents are outraged, and want the stores to stay. Kroger who owns the 5 Pick n Save locations says the stores are leaving for ‘health of the business’ reasons… which requires an investigation.

Despite the recent news that Family Dollar would be closing nearly 1,000 of their 8,000 American locations, dollar stores are spreading across the country at a staggering rate. Since 2011, the number of dollar stores nationwide has climbed from 20,000 to over 30,000, meaning there are now more dollar stores than Walmart and McDonald’s combined, according to a report from the Institute for Local Self-Reliance.

Though they rarely carry fresh fruit, vegetables and meat — and despite likely exacerbating American food deserts — dollar stores are actually the fastest-growing food retailers in the United States, according to a 2023 study from experts at Tufts University School of Medicine and the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, which was published in the American Journal of Public Health.

There are a variety of reasons for that, but one of the most significant by far is the way in which big-name supermarkets have largely abandoned, or avoided, many low-income neighborhoods over the last half-century, leaving a gigantic vacuum for dollar stores to fill, specifically in urban communities of color.

What happened to blacks in the past does not explain, and it certainly does not justify, black social pathology now.

Jews were persecuted for two thousand years. This persecution culminated in the Holocaust. Today the Ashkenazim are the most accomplished race in existence. Persecution of European Jews selected them genetically for high intelligence. Jews were not allowed to practice most trades. They were allowed to practice finance. Finance required learning complex skills. Jewish men who could not learn the skills had no children, or they left the faith. Because Jews were often expelled from countries this selected them genetically for the ability to be adaptable, and to learn new languages.

During the turn of the last century there was a vast immigration of very poor Jews to the United Stats. Within two generations so many of them were entering Harvard that quotas were developed to keep them out.

Of course, there are Negroes who behave and perform well. They deserve our admiration and our compassionate concern. When they were growing up many of them were ostracized, and some were beaten up by other Negroes for acting white.

You're missing the point. I'm not talking about liberalism, woke or any of the buzzwords
some associate with crime in the USA. The problem is so much more complex than you want to believe. Unless you have some true knowledge of the problem and not just an opinion you've pulled out of your ass, it would be a waste of my time to trade posts with you. Do some research to see what it costs your state to house a state prison inmate. Housing is just one of many costs.

When you came here from China back then, literally anything was better. They were in the midst of the Taiping Rebellion when Chinese started trickling over here. Estimates of the conflict's death toll range between 20 million and 30 million people, representing 5–10% of China's population at that time. It was the worst revolution / civil war you can ever imagine with wholesale massacres and executions by either side. America, for all the ill-treatment and exploitation Chinese suffered, was just about heaven by comparison. And of course Chinese worked hard and fitted in. That's what we do and why we almost all have English first names. LOL. We do that everywhere.

Urban food deserts could be the leading edge of what will eventually happen everywhere: small stores with specific types of merchandise and general stores replace the supermarkets. A general store might be closer to 7 Eleven size than dollar store size.

When I was a child, a teenager, and a young adult I made excuses for black social pathology. When I got older, I got tired of making excuses. Now I am tired of hearing them. I admire people and races who are intelligent, who obey the law, and who do not have illegitimate children. People like that can be found in all races, but they are more frequently found in some races than in others.

Two generations since the civil rights legislation was passed and since the War on Poverty was declared I think we have the right to expect better behavior and performance from most blacks.

No. Locked cabinets, or you have to order them from a staff member. That pushes up the costs but it can be cheaper where theft rates are high. The customer always pays tho

Oh, I have solutions. You wouldn't like them.

80% of crimes are committed by people with 3+ offences. My solution? Just take everyone who hits three offences and execute them on the spot. Don't try and reform them. Three strikes and you're removed from society. Permanently. You can make it four or five, just to be sure. At that point it's the same people anyhow. They're npt reformable. They will keep committing crimes. They are a blight on society, and like a blight, they need to be eradicated. Which they generally are, but less formally and more in an ad-hoc manner.

There's others but you wouldn't like them either.
