The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Hallo,

Take a peek at post one And the last few pages. It is a fast moving thread as lots of convos going on at once.

We are a little different here as we are friends!!

We sort of have some "rules" we follow...

1. No politics
2. No religion (you will see a little references, but we dont go all in it.... we all have our own beliefs and we respect others)
3. This isnt a hook up thread. If you are interested ...dm them, we dont put that stuuf on for everyone to see.... there is at times some innuendo and light bantering.... but it is not like other threads....

We are like the bar cheers where you come in talk to friends have coffee or a cocktail and chat..

If it is too your liking stick around and tell us about yourself. I would live to hear about south africa!! I had a coworker from there i used to look up stuff to say in Africaans to her.... we used to have a giggle about it!!

Miss K
Thank you for welcoming me Miss K.

I read the first post and also some of the others and enjoyed the absence of blatant sex chat. Actually a little refreshing although a little strange on a site like this. 😄

I like the bar analogy.

I will definitely hang around and see what this group is all about. I already had a good laugh about all OlderMon935's posts about Monday. I got it that she is definitely not a Monday person. 🤣🤣

Welcome secret admirer. I saw Miss k laid down the rules.

Here’s how the drinks are made:

A mixture of retired and working people. Good banter.
A fair tipping amount of immature humor.
Half a shot of our medical woes.
And a full on shot of good people.

What kinda drink can I getcha?

Hi Wonderer67,

Well, I'm still working class...thoroughly enjoying my work still.
I can do immature humor, my daughter almost never laughs at my dad jokes.
I happy to report that I do not have any major medical woes, yet, except that I'm now on the glasses cart for the past year...
I'd like join you good people.

She is a great lover of coffee!!!!

And the only people who like monday mornings are the retired ones.... tbh they probably rarely know what day it is...hahahaha

I might be stretching it, because I work in an office. But I guess I can get away with it because we also own and work a farm.

Bought a pair of those Bluetooth earbud things from Klipsch last year. One stopped working so sent my info and they replaced them! Win! They forgot to put the FedEx return label in my package so now I’m in the email chain again. I told them just give me an address and I’ll pick up the charge for the return. They were very good to deal with and their customer service was very prompt.

If’n yer in the market for ear buds…they’re a good way to go.

The weekend came and went, didn’t get much done other than spending time with family…which if you think about it, is worth its weight in gold. I cleaned out thousands…you read that right…THOUSANDS, of duplicate photos yesterday from about an 11 or 12 year time frame of iPhone and DSLR pix. One 500+ burst was from a road trip from Red Rocks to El Paso where my then 6 yr old took screen shots of dinosaurs from some game we put on my iPad for him! 😂.

I’ve always considered myself an amateur photographer but the type that pulls the camera out, takes some artistic shots, doesn’t like the “art” my eye saw but didn’t translate, and will put it away to gather dust for years. Pull it out, repeat. Well, I’m in a photo mood as of late (mainly due to our trip to VA last month), and decided to go whole hog again. First order of business was to clean out old photos of junk and duplicates…so they can be replaced with more bad photos and junk! 🤣

After I get these professional photos of MZ I’ve collected out of my system, I think I’ll post some of my own shots…🧐…maybe…

Here is one of the Pro shots I adore and it will never get the delete button. Dancing Monday MZ——

I only wish I could write like that!
Thanks for sharing your beautiful thoughts and deep feelings!
Quiet reflection on a random Sunday afternoon...

Dating over 50 is certainly not for the faint of heart. By the time we reach this age, we’re no longer entering relationships as blank slates. We come with stories, scars, triumphs, and disappointments. Everyone carries a suitcase of history, some heavier than others, and that weight makes us cautious.

The biggest challenge for me isn’t meeting people. It’s motivating myself to even try. Dating apps, introductions, chance encounters, they all hold possibility, but the energy it takes to open up, to risk again, feels huge. I’ve learned to protect myself. I listen closely to words, quietly observe actions, and never ignore my nstincts. And when something feels off, even in the smallest way, I don’t ignore it. I RUN.

It’s not that I don’t want connection. I do. But by now, I’ve learned two things with certainty:

1. I know what I don’t want.
2. I recognize a genuine connection the moment I feel it.

That “connection” doesn’t always mean romance. Sometimes it’s a stimulating conversation that challenges me to think. Sometimes it’s shared humor, mutual passions, or even the unspoken comfort of being understood without explanation. Wherever it comes from, I know it when it arrives.

And yet, connection doesn’t always lead to permanence. Barriers exist. Whether that be geography, timing, complicated circumstances, or simply life. What’s different at this stage is that I no longer force something just because it feels good in the moment. I’ve learned the cost of compromising myself, and I'm not willing to pay it again.

The truth is, dating over 50 is less about chasing romance and more about navigating trust. I question intentions. I wonder if sincerity is real or just another layer of charm. I’ve lived long enough to know that words don’t always match actions, and that realization makes me cautious - even jaded at times.

Still, there’s a beauty in this stage of life. With all the skepticism, there’s also clarity. We may not always know who’s right for us, but we know without hesitation who is not. We know that love, if it comes, should bring peace instead of turmoil, light instead of shadows. We know that connection is precious, but it should never come at the cost of our balance or self-respect.

And so, I keep moving forward - guarded, wiser, maybe slower to open up, but also more certain of myself than ever before. Because dating over 50 isn’t about filling a void. It’s about finding someone who doesn’t weigh us down with their baggage, but walks beside us, carrying their own with honesty and grace.

Love at this age doesn’t need fireworks; it needs steadiness, sincerity, and the comfort of knowing we’re finally safe to be ourselves.

In the end, dating over 50 isn’t about finding someone to complete us. It’s about finding someone who respects the life we’ve already built and chooses to walk beside us.

Dedicated to Matt.
So beautifully and articulately written. You nailed it! ❤️

Ahhh, that feeling when you get to leave work. 🧘‍♀️
And now to get the blood pumping...
I remember that! My parents called it the Hi-Fi. It had a turntable that could stack records. None of us kids were allowed to touch it!
I remember getting permission at a very young age to use ours. My favorite record then was the soundtrack to Zorba the Greek. You know the song... you know the dance... everybody - Join In! 🎶
I drove my parents nuts! :ROFLMAO:
Here's Anthony Quinn w/ the composer, Mikis Theodorakis in 1995 when Anthony was 80 years young. 🥰
Or until at least midnight when I turn back into a pumpkin
You make a lovely pumpkin, Rj!
I do not want them landing on me! I have great respect and love for bees. I'm very respectful as I'm also (epi pen) allergic to them. 😱🐝😱
I want them a heckuva lot farther away for the same reason. I realize that photo may be a close-up, but that looks more like one of those nightmare-inducing murder hornets. Those can stay even farther away from me tyvm!
We would have had to get another freezer.
My sister was telling me about her new freezer. I now have freezer envy. 🙄 Hers is 21 cu ft. My stand up is only 17. 😤
We have a 21 cu ft. We need another.
My parents have a stand up freezer that is older than me..... thing freezes stuff SOLID
There must be something in the air at the end of summer... or some sort of sale... or both. Even my BFF emailed me today about how all their freezers (3 of them) are all full... and there's a sale. They're considering since one of their 3 freezers has a crack.
Current sale: Buy the 5 cu ft freezer for $260 (incl tax) and get $200 in free stuff.
I think someone's going shopping.
@Lilianna23

I'm allergic to strawberries also & raspberries, oranges, and most citrus fruits
I won't even eat anything strawberry flavored. I'm afraid doing so will trigger the want. 🙄
I'm so sorry - I have it easy where many of the foods I can't eat I never really liked. But strawberries, citrus, and tomatoes have been very challenging... not just to avoid but because I like them all so much.
It definitely changes how you look at food, shop, eat out, and cook... and can take so much more time. 🫂🫂
No, increased to 7.2 today.... so they are putting in port tomorrow and he will start dialysis
Yeah. You need the support!
Sending thoughts for you, your dad, your mom, your feet... 🫂
A must-have album in anyone's collection!
Thanks for the recco
Fantastic record. Esp when you start drunkenly singing the songs karaoke style.
Now there's a skill for the old CV 👨‍🎤
And we don't keep them unless we actively keep them. Takes a bit of effort on our part(s), really.
Pro Tip: Friendship is not a Spectator Sport
We'll see how The New System works. Nearly anything would be an improvement.
You'll be just fine... I know the Head Weasel 🤭
And, in what should actually become law in music, almost every track is under 3 minutes long!
⬆️⬆️⬆️ that, right there.

And to quote Steve Jones, “ a guitar solo should be no longer than it takes to open a beer and take the first swig.”
I see your point, but think of all the amazing music we would have missed out on with those rules.
Filter for yourself, but I'd like the full catalog please.
The good thing about this Monday is my son is flying down for the week.
Have a great visit!! 🥰🥰
After that its prep for the colonoscopy on Thursday. 😟
Thank you for the reminder. I have some time yet but need to find a new recipe for homemade electrolyte drink. I don't tolerate Gatorade or G2 or the equivalents on the market. Now that I need to avoid citrus the recipe I have won't work as the base is it calls for both lemon and lime juice.
The dreaded prep. I found out you could eat jello that helped just a bit to ease the hunger.
For anyone who doesn't tolerate or is vegan, I found this recipe online. Not quite the same as the name brand stuff, but closest I've found. You won't get the panic colors using fruit juice for coloring but you won't get the reactions from the dyes either.
Loving It Vegan: Fruity Vegan Jello
I knew it was coming
knowing something is coming and an in-your-face "Hello!" can hit really differently sometimes 🫂
Good day to the 50 Plus Cafe.
What a pleasant surprise when I came (no pun intended) across this.
I'm a 56 years old white male from South Africa.
Welcome - hope you like it
You can use FMLA to care for a parent. Look into it.
Depending on how the paperwork is filled out you can take the time intermittently rather than in a solid block. Similar to scheduled PTO - it works when you know your date in advance and when :poop: hits the fan w/o notice. 🫂

I prefer over the ear or bone conducting to earbuds but that level of customer service is outstanding.
So glad you had some solid quality time with family. 🥰
I don't have eczema but I do have asthma. Fortunately, it's well controlled right now. 🤞🤞
Ok, the eczema is annoying and sometimes embarrassing depending on where it strikes, but asthma is so intense and scary when it hits... and it's breathing. We've established that's a primary function and not optional. So glad yours is well-controlled. I've seen the other side of that coin and it's so far less than ideal. 🫂🫂
You’re right about asthmatics and eczema. They are both allergic reactions and my poor daughter suffers from both. Didn’t realize it was a “Known” thing.
🫂 I am so sorry she has to deal with both - one is too much, let alone both. 😥
I thibk in my nursing travels i picked it up... some diseases come in pairs or 3s.....
Yes, they do... and if they are autoimmune you can sometimes collect them like Pokémon cards
I made something similar recently with hamburger laughing cow cheese beef broth sone onion garlic and spices.... it was delicious
Here's the recipe posted by @Missk_2022 😊
What day is this? I only know I'm irritated with various aches and pains. 🤪🤪🙄🙄
For you, @Tweedledude... it's Saturday
Every day is Saturday... even when it's Monday, it's Saturday... Go. Scoot. Enjoy your retirement :ROFLMAO: 😉

For personal advice... for gods sake read profiles before you dm...if you decide too.... if you dm the wrong person for a hook up...yikes....and when you are new dont come in hot with the sex jokes and innuendo.... we like to get to know a guy first!!!!

This thread is special and one of a kind... we want to keep it the port in the storm for weary travellers (so to speak)

Miss K
