The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

I’m in the insurance industry, but certainly no expert.

The very high cost of claims and losses drive up the cost for everyone, making it very difficult to make money in certain geographic locations; California (wildfire
Risk), Florida how many Gulf Coast states (hurricane risk).

In a perfect world, the good risks should outweigh the bad, providing opportunities to make some profit. But the reality is that just doesn’t exist in many of the geographies I listed above.

To be fair and honest, there have been years we’ve made a lot of money. There have also been just as many years as we’ve lost our shirts. And you can’t stay in business by just breaking even.

The unfortunate part is that it drives up costs for all homeowners.

I am not sure what the answer is
In FL right now the salaries of the insurance executives is getting alot of attention. Then there is the attention that getting between companies and people who have lost there home get. I guess Benjamin Franklin would suggest we have mutual insurance. With the increase in storms and sea level rise it always seems like a bad idea to make money on the personal disasters. I sort of feel the sameway about the medical Industry.

Do you need a voodoo doll?
I have been praying about it...

8 have been thinking of housewarming presents

A flaming bag of shit.

A surprise box of cockroaches or better yet crickets

A box of condoms and a plan b pill because she should never have more children

A book on how to take care of animals

Cleaning supplies

Hmm what else

That’s why all the mutual companies in Florida are mostly out of business. It’s nearly impossible to insure there.

Amica is still in fla as far as I know and they are a mutual but have a big enough regional footprint throughout the eastern US to make it work. But they are quite expensive.

And yes, the salaries for executives are out of control. No one is worth that much money.

For awhile we had a state run insurance and then got switched over to a private company. Our cost doubled this year. Living close to the coast in FL has it's perks and cost. I did see the subways in NYC were flooding. I do recall in my days of living there the subways were the fastest way to get around working 9 to 5. I recall coming up the stairs and something seemed wrong as I walked down the street. Taxi drivers were on strike! LOL

"tIt takes a lot to make me dislike a person as much as I dislike her and her brat of a daughter. Usually I ignore..... but she is special
There are special people in this world. Some live across the street from me and I am pondering what I should do. In reality I should try to make "things" better. On the other hand I don't think that is possible. I was thinking of putting up a tall fence so when I look out the front window I wouldn't have to see them.

Chronic alcoholics can run that high on BAC. I would be dead if mine was that high! Alcoholism is a horrible disease.
Yes it is! It is also (as far as I know) the only drug that withdrawals can literally kill you. Other drugs will make you think you're dying during detox, but alcohol detox can actually kill you.

I know if two people around here who died from alcohol withdrawals. One recently, decided he was going to quit drinking and died as a result in his apartment. Another, years ago died under the care of a doctor in jail.

OMG! 😱😱 I hope it stays well away from you! 🫂
I saw that, it might as well be a hurricane. I hope you are high and dry this am.
Most of it swept in just south of me. We still got plenty of wind, rain & thunder but no twisters. Power up whole time, too.
Did trigger a migraine. 4am was not fun. Better now but just took meds. Grabbing 2 cold packs for head & lying down again. Will be OK- just takes time.
I can’t never give you guys up! 😂🤪😜

Rick roll? Really?!? What did we do to deserve this? 🤨 :ROFLMAO:

Batten down the hatches
Last night's storm appears to have been an appetizer
After another day with Excessive Heat Warnings...
even stronger storms are headed in from Montana.
Fun and games begin around rush hour
Derecho (4-5 out of 5) with winds up to 75mph+, heavy rain, hail - possibly up to softball size.

Most of this party is supposed to skirt just south of me... 🤞
Did you get our storms last night?

It just doesn't have the right mouth feel.
If this were used as another out of context quote...

Trying to catch up today, but wow. All y'all been prolific posters lately! (I think that's the correct usage. "All y'all" is a large group, right? Where "y'all" is 3 or less? 🤷‍♂️)

Spent a good part of Saturday working on rusty car, and by Sunday I wasn't feeling great. Combination of allergies, and maybe a kid delivered cold but. Ended up spending the whole day in bed (Ok, on or two hours in front of the TV, starting at 7pm!). Just couldn't drag myself out to do anything else.

Anyway, skimming through pretty quick. Hope I don't miss anything too important! ;)

Hope you all have a good rest of your day.

I had things I was going to do yesterday but spent HOURS making cherry syrup! Thanks, K+, for putting that notion in my head! 🤣🤣

We might be needing recipe for syrup and pie filling. We (OK, she, this year...) put 13 quarts of cherries in the freezer, and she thinks there's 3-4 quarts on the trees yet.
Maybe if not for this year, for the coming years as these threes have only been in 4 years now and we have 7 trees...

These are tart cherries, so I understand they'll need sugar to make syrup. (That sweetish-tartish cherry flavor is amazing!).
