There is a growing consensus among military experts and scholars that WWIII has probably already begun but just hasn't gone nuclear yet.

I've been watching the US play chicken with nuclear war for about three years. It used to scare the shit out of me.

These days, I'm thinking that things are just so far gone that the end of the world would be a relief

Iran kicked Israel's ass. It's why they begged the US to broker a ceasefire. And Russia, China, North Korea, and Pakistan offered to help them but Iran turned them down.

Parts of Haifa and Tel Aviv look like Gaza now, their air defenses are destroyed, their defense department and the headquarters of Mossad were bombed. Israel started arresting anyone recording the bombings, they shut down the borders to keep people from fleeing, so many people fled to Cyprus that that country is freaking out, etc.

The article was explaining that Iran's missiles are so powerful that some of the shockwaves were as bad as direct hits. Those neighborhoods were leveled by shockwaves produced by strikes on other targets.

Yeah, they did a series of terrorist attacks that killed a lot of civilians and Iranian military leaders--and barely slowed down Iran's response. Haifa and Tel Aviv were rubble within what? Three days of the attack?

Tehran was barely affected.

Your own link shows a total of only 96 buildings severely damaged across 8 cities. That's a long way from how you're characterising the damage.

There's probably several hundred thousand buildings in just Tel Aviv alone!

1) A civilian neighborhood destroyed. Fewer deaths than recent flood in Texas. Strategic value: zero or less than zero (As US never learns, indiscriminate bombing heightens resolve of sufferers).

3) Syria enemy of Iran instead of loyal ally. Gaza obliterated. (To be clear, I consider that a continuing, sickening war crime). Houtis resilient. Russia no overt help, on DL probably giving some assistance, mostly technical. China no overt help. It NEEDS oil passing thru Strait of Hormuz so Iran dare not shut that down. Iraq mostly remains as unhelpful ally for Iran. If that were a poker hand, it would be two pair.

4) Unbelievable to me but Israel has US JOINING IN BOMBING AND REFUELING. In poker, that's full house at least. Result: most highly defended Iranian installations bombed with impunity (not locally undefended, militarily worthless civilian neighborhoods as in Israel)

5) Virtually every Israeli citizen, arab ethnicity included, supports the structure of the country tho, perhaps, hating Likud and its ilk. Many, many Iranians want the government, its very basis, torn down and its (secular) opposite in place. Corruption, economic frailty and police brutality getting worse, not better. When oil runs out, world's first pistachio-based economy?

6) Iran's real enemy, Saudi Arabia, absolutely untouched. Our Presidents kiss their king's ring.

7) Iranians know Bashar al-Assad fled hours in front of a meat hook with his name on it. I hope best for folks there. But its leadership in big trouble. As is anyone who's best friend is Vlad Putin

The US doesn't have a single hypersonic missile and hasn't won a war in nearly 40 years despite starting dozens of them. The US Navy had its ass kicked by the Houthis twice.

If you think the US military is still a powerful force with any kind of card to play in a direct conflict with another modern power besides the nuclear deterrent, you're living in the 1990s.

Like everything else in America, our military is an expensive embarrassment.
