yeah, the weird thing is when i think about the math the writers have to do to make the mother as young as possible. Ok, can i make her 34? He has to be 18, that would mean she would have had to have a child at 16, ok so i write that she married young... just make her older for gods sake XD

And she doesn't need to be married at 15/16, either. People can get married after they have kids. It doesn't even have to be with the baby daddy. Also, single mother's are a thing.

Plus, a mother with poor judgement and self control as a teen likely also has poor judgment and self control in her 30s.

the thing isn't that it is advanced math, but that you are having to do the math at all. And then you start with the "oh she was young when she got pregnant". If there is a point to it for her character then please. But just making someone have a teen pregnancy because you want her to be a certain age is the funny part. Chekhovs gun and all that.

I've been mulling this story where the mom being mid to late 40s is an integral part of the story. However, the son is also in mid to late 20, necessitating her having gotten pregnant at 18-19.

Menopause is a key driving factor, and I wanted the son to have a certain maturity, given the themes of the story.

I think the idea of a younger mom could also stem from the reader/writer being shallow. It's a fantasy anyway, so why not make the woman a hot MILF in mid 30s. Heck, Stiffler's mom was in her late 30s, and the actress was 36 or 38 when she played her.

Why are writers so scared of of the 40-50 age range for the Mother character? More often than not it's the 18 year old son and his 36,37 or 38 year old mom, I mean, sure it's perfectly possible but feels like the 40-50 age range is much much more realistic.. yes, it's a story, one can make up any scenario one wants. I've read stories where the mom was knocked up at 15 and she's only 33 years of age when she started having sex with her 18 year old son.. It's possible this is a bias on my end, but i feel like the 40-50 range is more exciting; the taboo-ness is heightened because they are older, wiser and generally expected to be more uptight (idk if this makes sense), yet women in this age range are still perfectly beautiful and sexy.. 38 is still too young in my personal opinion... Hell, I am almost 38 but in my head I still feel like I am 25 lol
