I've been reading posts from a number of you guys insisting that all the conflicts/wars (some might call certain actions genocidal) Israel is currently involved is ALL about Israel's very existence being threatened.

Iran has been calling for the destruction of Israel ("the Zionist entity) since the 80's. They also called for the destruction of the United States but no one took them seriously because of the power differential. But Israel is the size of New Jersey, while Iran is the size of Texas, so the threat is more credible.

Instead of attacking Israel directly, Iran funded Hamas and Hezbollah on Israel's borders. If H&H had launched a coordinated attack with Iran, it would have been an existential threat, but Sinwar jumped the gun and attacked early on October 7th.

It was the worst massacre in Israeli history, but after the IDF started fighting back the threat was contained. The beeper attack on Hezbollah further reduced the immediate threat, but the danger posed by Iran still remained.

Israel has been working to knock down Iran's bomb program the whole time, but they never dared attack Iran openly with Hamas and Hezbollah on their doorstep. Now with Iran's proxies almost eliminated, Israel can afford to strike directly at the main threat.

Iran just called on Hezbollah a few days ago to attack Israel and they replied "nah, you're on your own, we're too weak."
