Outsider’s Insights: Shooting a .40 Caliber for the First Time

Traveling outside of your cozy, protective bubble to try something new can seem scary and overwhelming at first. However, I am slowly learning that there will be times in your life when pressure and uncomfortable emotions are necessary to grow as a person. For this reason, I decided it was time to try shooting a larger-caliber pistol, such as a .40 caliber.

My First Time Shooting a .40 Caliber Handgun

Throughout my shooting journey, I have found that experimenting with different calibers is a great way to challenge myself. Not only to become a better shooter but also to become a better person. Here is my experience and what I learned after shooting a .40 caliber pistol for the first time.

And so on . . . .

SCOTUS rejects Maryland AR-15 case and interest groups respond

It’s not clear if the Supreme Court’s decision to deny two gun cases, including a challenge to a Maryland ban on AR-15s, a semi-automatic rifle, will influence how other gun cases are determined. However, gun owners say the split-court’s case rejection reflects skepticism from some justices that the ban is constitutional.

“Four members of the Court, including Justice Kavanaugh, have made clear that the Fourth Circuit incorrectly decided the case,” said Mark Pennak, president of Maryland Shall Issue, a group advocating for gun owner rights expansion. In his view, the court’s rejection only “temporarily” allows the ban to hold. “Once the Court grants review of the issue, the decision in that case will be controlling precedent in MD and elsewhere. If plaintiffs win on this issue in that case, the Maryland law will fail as well,” he said.

The ban was enacted in response to the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in Newton, Conn., where 20 children and six school staff members were killed. The Maryland case, Snope v. Brown, was declined alongside a Rhode Island case which contested a ban on high-capacity gun magazines.

While Justices Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch and Clarence Thomas said they would hear the case, four of the nine Supreme Court justices must agree to hear a case. Justice Brett Kavanaugh said he expects the court will address the issue of AR-15 legality “in the next Term or two.” Kavanaugh also said that AR–15s are legal in 41 of the 50 States, which makes Maryland’s law, relatively, “something of an outlier.”

And so on.

Of course, there is another take on this, not about 2A but about State's Rights. Perhaps the court is looking to find that, in fact, if states can and do pass upheld laws which appear to run counter to the constitution, then those states have rights to make other sweeping decisions, too.

Can secession be far behind then???

How far behind is triggering???

Are you arguing for secession?

Do you have your stars and bars up?

One of the most compelling things about the Buddhist view of suffering is the notion, inherent in the Wheel of Life Image, that the causes of suffering are also the means of release; that is, the sufferer's perspective determines whether a given realm is a vehicle for awakening or for bondage. Conditioned by the forces of attachment, aversion, and delusion, our faulty perceptions of the realms -- not the realms themselves--cause suffering.

I found out "Hey Joe" has been performed in concert by 437 different artists.
Quite a few famous performers have been "one and done".
Bruce Springsteen performed it once at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park NJ before getting famous.
Cher performed it in concert in 1968

I think possibly the most stomach churning version must've been Billy Joel performing a "medley" of "Hey Joe" and Toto's "Africa" in 1989. *shudder*

Funniest entries on Setlist.fm:
Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush - 1 time
Frank Marino (no Mahogany Rush) - 1 time
Mahogany Rush (no Frank Marino) - 1 time

p.s. Led Zeppelin made a lot of good music, but their rendition of "Hey Joe" sucks balls.
