Once Upon A Time: the Dark Fairy Tales Challenge

It's not that they don't LIKE their pillow husband, he's kind and sweet, helpful around the house, if a bit empty-headed. And it's not his fault that he was brought to life. But he's constantly horny, and Helde and Inga just aren't into him like that.

But Ole and Sven down the lane, they've got a Pillow Wife... If Helde and Inga could just figure out how their husband came to life, maybe they could do it again...
That raises the question of why Ole and Sven needed a pillow wife. Is the town rule about unmarried women similar to one about bachelors and households? Are they mocking Heide and Inga in some way? If Pillow Wife comes to life and hooks up with Pillow Husband to start their own Pillow Fort, where does that leave the others? Do they pretend to pair off into 'Hole' and 'Svinga', and if so, why didn't they do that in the first place?
(Don't take my questions too seriously, one of the charms of fairy tales is that the people in them rarely behave logically or with practicality.)

These are very good questions, which I will either find a way to cleverly address, or ignore entirely 🤣

I attempted to write the legend of Snow White, told from Nazi Germany in the 40s. I think it's my worst-rated story ever.

I have to say that the subject is so out there, I want to read it. Do you dare to share? Though a subject you obviously quickly burn yourself on, it is without a doubt not conforming to the norm.

I recently discovered this challenge and am interested. I have a general theme I've wanted to test in a regular story and it is definitely fit for a fairy tale. I’m not sure yet how to make it erotic and dark, not to mention it’s been a long while since I last read a fairy tale and have no firm idea how to make that happen. Especially when I want to avoid fairy tale Once upon a time, happily ever after clichés. Time to lay down some words to find out.

Do you like to give a synopsis of your imagined story? I'm curious!

Keep in mind that the original fairy tales were often much darker. Hacked off toes (Cinderella), rape if a sleeping woman (Snow White), or being eaten alive by a wolf and not being rescued (Red Riding Hood). So searching for originals can inspire you! I think you can add many folktales with some mystery behind them as well. Norse tales of Beowolf, or Greek tales of demigods and satyrs. The list of stories you can use as inspiration to then make a dark fairy tale are plenty. Happy writing!

The theme generally is about desire and jelousy. But I want to stay away from traditional fairy tales / folk tales and make it my own.

I completely understand. I use the basis of those fairy tales to make something completely different. I'll admit that some things in my developing story are thinly veiled story beats from those original fairy tales, but the meat of it is my own.

It's worth it just to come up with your own version of the dwarves' names. I've never had more goofy fun writing an erotic story than I had writing that one.
In my version, with the Queen watching Snowy without any audio, I can imagine her naming the dwarves in her head. "The one she thought of as Handsy groped at her stepdaughter's breasts, while Eager fumbled with his belt. Horse stood back, drawing out his own tool that justified his nickname."

Those are good. My 7 dwarves were Gropy, Biggie, Quickie, Loady, Kinky, Gently, and Doc.

Close the door and huddle down in front of the fire, and tell us your tales of princesses, witches, ogres, bold farm lads, magical mirrors, giant beanstalks and pussy in boots. Will the princess escape from the giant's clutches, or will she decide that bigger is better? Is the witch a GILF with a magic broomstick? When the big bad wolf huffs and puffs, what will he blow? Will the goose lay golden eggs, or... Actually, no, I can't think of a way to make this one sexy. But I'm sure someone here can.
Challenge accepted. ;)

Seriously, I have a WIP that I know I can use, but it'll need to be re-written a bit to make it into a "fairy tale" of sorts.

Are there people considering putting the stories in a modern setting, and then run with it? Like Cinderella being a modern slave, unable to make ends meet and her family/employers make sure it stays that way, until a crypto bro is coming by with a party? The dark turn is that the crypto bro is not as good as a prospect as he might first appear.

The piper is a youtube phenomenon that does everything for his viewers. He wants the best, and when he can't get that, he transforms his audience into a howling horny mob to teach the government a lesson, but this quickly backfires?

Some other fairy tales adapted to the modern world with a dark twist?

Go ahead and give it a try!

There were a few in the Fairy Tales Writing Exercise, if I remember rightly. I did a snippet, and I think @onehitwanda did one too. Maybe some others.

Mine is definitely in a modern setting.

I was reading those for the second time. I just hope on a longer format one.

I'm too busy with my own bigger story to focus on a modern setting. If I'm done with this one I have another lined up, if I'm not through with writing dark fairytales for the moment. I think it'll be a miracle if I finish my current story before September, but I try. So far the background has been set up, the fairy tale has started, and they are nearly at 'act III' where the story hopefully starts to take shape.

Quick question: for FC erotic development, do you prefer the millers son (20+) or the millers daughter (also 20+) for a light 'lesson'?

Two and a half months to go before the Dark Fairy Tales challenge kicks off!

I'm actually a bit worried, because I've barely written anything for weeks and all my fairy tales are languishing like so many princes waiting to be rescued by an ogre.
