Air India Boeing Dreamliner crashed on takeoff from Ahmedabad Airport in the northwestern Indian state of Gujarat. The aircraft went down just minutes after leaving the runway at 1:17pm local time.
The cause of the crash is not yet known, but a video posted to social media appeared to show the plane descending in a controlled manner with a high nose angle and landing gear deployed.

It momentarily disappeared from view behind trees and buildings before a massive fireball erupted on the horizon.

The tragedy is the latest in a string of disasters involving Boeing jets and comes just six months after a 737 crashed in South Korea, killing 179.
- In October 2018, Boeing's Lion Air flight 610 plunged into the Java Sea shortly after takeoff from Jakarta, in Indonesia killing all 189 people on board.
- Then, in March 2019, Ethiopian Airlines flight 302 crashed minutes after departing Addis Ababa, resulting in the deaths of 157 passengers and crew.

Might be best to fly Airbus if you're planning a long haul flight.....these boeing's just keep falling out of the sky

A clear case of sabotage by Pakistan with help from the Chinese. A nuclear response is indicated.

No spool up of the engines. You can clearly hear the jet pass overhead before it begins to descend and crash but there's no increase in engine noise and what noise there is isn't that roaring rumble we associate with jet takeoffs. Power is not being applied. Why is the question.

How does a commercial passenger get to choose the type of plane that’s scheduled for their flight?

First 787 crash ever.
14 years in service.
Five billion-with-a-B passengers flown safely until today.

Go clutch your fake pearls somewhere else.

On take off?

What were the flaps set at?

Power loss, it would have never become airborne if it never reached full power. Something went horribly wrong power wise shortly after takeoff. Contaminated fuel?

I saw a reporter ask tha5 question too. Speculation that the flaps weren't set for takeoff and thT the wheels were still down because the pilots were dealing with whatever was wrong.

Apparently he was sitting near the front of the plane. Usually it's those at the rear who have the best survival chance.
Now there is a lucky guy. Fly with him and you seriously reduce the odds that you are ever in a plane crash from now on

The video i saw looked like a long , struggling takeoff.

Later i saw something that said the liner used the full 14,000ft runway

Specs say fully loaded goes airborne in 10,300 feet

Might have simply have been overloaded.
