DonOld went with red MAGAt hat in hand (initiated a call) to beg China & Xi for rare earth minerals, at which point, China & Xi scolded DonOld for his tariff tantrums and threatened DonOld over Taiwan.

Per The New York Times:

“Chinese state media said Thursday that Mr. Xi had called for greater cooperation, consultation and respect between the countries, AND THAT THE EXCHANGE HAD HAPPENED AT MR. TRUMP’S REQUEST.”

😳 😑 🤣

DonOld said the call went great. Perfect even. The best call ever. A lot of people are saying it…

🙄 😑 🤣

We. Told. Them. So.

China has learned mightily from its first attempt to "teach the United States a lesson" by withholding rare earth minerals.

That Negro President said or did something the Chinese did not approve of back in 2014 and as a result China announced an embargo on sending lithium ore to the United States. Chinese exports of lithium dropped to zero, but, due to the "magic of teh market", that same year Vietnam had blockbuster exports of lithium to the USA, which is incredible because Vietnam has no known lithium reserves....

.....or maaaaybe, sneaky Chinese businessmen knew lithium ore was untraceable, and trans-shipped their ore through Vietnam (at higher prices, of course).

Lithium is something called a "light grade" rare earth, which means you just take the ore and do whatever you like with it.

The next step up is "medium grade" rare earths, which includes Germanium. Germanium needs significant factory processing to refine and process the rare earth trace elements into little ingots...and China is basically the only country in the world that has the capacity and bandwidth to do this.

The Chinese used microscopic laser to engrave a unique serial number on each small ingot, allowing the country to track who is selling what, and to who.

How does this affect the United States? Welp, until recently it was a closely held "state secret" that the fifth-generation Air Force F35 strike force planes owes much of the tremendous edge in performance over the competition due to its reliance on several dozen (70-ish? Not sure) so-called "super magnets", which are used to keep the huge arrays of sensors and relays in perfect alignment during punishing aerial manuevers (basically, you can keep a 'missile lock' on an enemy even flying inverted into a barrel roll at crushing g-force conditions.

"Well, that's cool, Robdownsouth, but what have these "super magnets" to do with Chinese rare earth embargos?" you might ask.

The answer is simple: the only "super magnets" that can perform to these grueling Air Force specifications are made from.....drum roll.....pure processed Germanium.

This completely avoidable Trump foreign policy fuckup is going to fuck up both the production and repair of F35 fighters.

I can envision a scenario where Seal Team 6 is being dispatched on a super high priority mission: An F35 was shot down! Yes, the pilot ejected safely, but the magnets must be recovered at any cost!

The US does have a germanium stockpile, and we are undoubtedly sourcing rare earths from other countries as well as domestically.

The Chinese embargo IS a good excuse for defense contractors to gouge the government, though…
“increased procurement costs of rare earths” or some such tripe…

😑
