Senate votes to block California ban on gas powered car sales

Someone will sue and get an injunction against it. Probably because Congress didn't give it enough due process or something.

There will definitely be lawsuits and possibly an injunction. Biden’s EPA had granted CA a Clean Air Act waiver that allowed the state to pass the ban. Supporters of the ban will argue that Congress doesn’t have the authority to override the waiver. We’ll have to wait and see how that goes but for now, it looks like gas powered cars will remain as legal as weed out there.

Does anybody really think banning gas powered cars is a good idea? If electric cars were that great, gas cars would automatically go the way of the horse and buggy. :)

Like many progressive Democrats, she is an unhinged racist.

BabyBoomer50s being racist:

[Elizabeth Holms riots] Geez, the case hasn’t even gone to the jury and the rioters in CA are already looting the high end fashion stores. If the verdict goes the wrong way the streets of Walnut Creek, San Francisco, and LA could be filled with blondes in black turtlenecks. Not even going to guess how this would all go down if she were black.

Does anybody think that making laws against racism is a good idea? If racism was so bad, it would go away on its own.
You are comparing racism to the ability of a person to travel quickly who may not have a lot of money but still needs a car.

Banning gas-powered cars isn’t about forcing people to give up something useful—it’s about pushing innovation forward once the consequences of staying put become too costly. Waiting for the market to ‘naturally’ phase out gas cars is like waiting for lead paint to go out of style. Government regulations exist because certain industries won’t self-correct when profits are at stake.

Electric cars are improving fast, and like seatbelts or unleaded gasoline, adoption ramps up when policy leads the way. No one thought the horse and buggy would be banned either—it just became obsolete as better tech matured. But here's the thing: we didn't have a global climate crisis hanging over our heads back then.

And to Fu Master’s point—yes, affordability matters. That’s why smart policies don’t just ban—they phase in changes and provide support to lower-income drivers. No one’s saying ‘ditch your car tomorrow.’ But we are saying we can’t afford to keep pretending gas cars are harmless just because they’re familiar.

You want freedom to travel? Cool. But that freedom shouldn't come at the cost of polluted air, rising asthma rates, and a climate future that roasts everyone equally. Regulation isn't oppression—it’s long-overdue responsibility."

And banning gas-powered cars is also not about reducing climate change, enhancing environmental protection, or improving the lives of working class Americans.

Eventually they'll have to, since the supply of gas is finite. Sooner or later it will run out, and the sooner we have a viable alternative in place, the better.
And once again we see just how much the party of "states' rights" cares about that principle when it's used for anything other than oppressing people they don't like.

They will, as electric cars will outperform ICE vehicles on every metric.

The problem is, of course, the idiots trying to force it to happen rather then letting free market forces naturally go that direction.

Agree. EVs will likely outperform ICE in the most important metrics at some point, but they don’t today. Government can’t afford endless subsidies and working folks can’t afford being forced to buy them.

But we are saying we can’t afford to keep pretending gas cars are harmless just because they’re familiar.
I accept the consequences of my actions. Most people just want to get their shopping done and get to work. And back. Maybe the occasional vaycay.

How long til Armageddon?

🙄

Everyone should read dmallord’s intelligent, thoughtful post, and then read BabyBoobs’ ignorant, sociopathic response - and then decide which is more persuasive.

That's the way life should be. Family, steady work, family, and an occasional vaycay even if it to visit relatives and get away from home.

Don't entertain Armageddon. It's an indeterminate ways down that road on the way to work or perhaps the vacation. Corrie Boom said "Worrying does not empty tomorrow of its troubles, it empties today of its strength." It emphasizes the futility of worrying about future problems.

Sounds like it would be a good reason. Everyone wants a healthy body, mind, and spirit. California's smog issues affect a lot of people's health.

Perhaps you don't feel climate change is real, but surely you arre not against environmenal protection and improving lives. Two out of three, right?

So, why do you think banning gas-powered cars is about?
